It would be great if Clever offered a CUDA decoding option.

Which encoder did you use for the test?
Could you repeat the test with

v3.4.7.09 feedback, burned-in subtitles, cosmetic changes

Thank you for adding the preview for burned-in subtitles. It works well and is indeed useful for adjustments.
I didn't know that it also include background transparency, which also works.
But that text is quiet long and close to the drop down, so all drop-downs could be moved 10 pixels to the right.
And "External File" and the round selector could also move 15 pixels to the right.
The text position on the "Select" button for external files is two pixels too high.
How about swapping the text for the external file and the preview button and centering both?
The two buttons at the bottom are also not centered.

Here are two images of the possible changes:

No, that seem so, because the button is selected.

How about swapping the text for the external file and the preview button and centering both?
Centering OK, but swap is not possible.

The two buttons at the bottom are also not centered.
    Will be changed.

If you look closely, you can see that the word “Select” is positioned two pixels higher than “Close.”

  9. You cannot open videos that are longer than 24 hours.
If you click “Next” on the error message, the welcome page appears in front of the main page.

    EDIT:
Clicking on X on the welcome scree closes the app. The configuration is not damaged either. The app can then be EDIT2 "started" as normal.
So it's a very rare problem!

Cut page testing, with a few suggestions:

During prolonged work with the “Cut” page, I noticed that the position of the “Add cut mark” button should be moved below the end time to keep the direction of the workflow and reduce the distance which is more efficient.
The two buttons can also be aligned appropriately. See picture.

    Image
[Attachment 89744 - Click to enlarge]

This allows the “Cut mark list” to be expanded downwards. Perhaps its title could also be centered.
In addition, the “Find cut points” button on the right-hand side is 3 pixels wider than “Preview last cut".
Longer “Start cut at” numbers are truncated at the end.
And this is the only page where the “Cut” and “To batch” buttons have a frame which is also always empty when the page is opened.

I’ve only tested with hevc_nvenc so far. Here are my results:

    1. -hwaccel cuda only
    CPU: ~40%
    GPU: ~60% encode / ~30% decode
    Time: 16 seconds

    Code:
    ffmpeg-8.0-win64-nonfree\FFmpeg.exe -hide_banner -loglevel error -stats -y -vsync 0 -hwaccel cuda -itsoffset -1.726 -fflags +genpts -i "test_3min_hevc.mkv" -vf fps=24000/1001 -map 0:0 -c:v hevc_nvenc -cq 30 -aspect 1.78 -an -sn -dn -metadata:g encoding_tool="clever FFmpeg-GUI" "test_3min_hevc_hwaccel_cuda_only.mkv"
    Result:
    Code:
    frame=4280 fps=264 q=35.0 speed=11x elapsed=0:00:16.20
    2. -hwaccel nvdec
Performance was basically the same as NVDEC.
    CPU: ~40%
    GPU: ~60% encode / ~30% decode
    Time: 16 seconds

    Code:
    ffmpeg-8.0-win64-nonfree\FFmpeg.exe -hide_banner -loglevel error -stats -y -vsync 0 -hwaccel nvdec -itsoffset -1.726 -fflags +genpts -i "test_3min_hevc.mkv" -vf fps=24000/1001 -map 0:0 -c:v hevc_nvenc -cq 30 -aspect 1.78 -an -sn -dn -metadata:g encoding_tool="clever FFmpeg-GUI" "test_3min_hevc_hwaccel_nvdec.mkv"
    Result:
    Code:
    frame=4280 fps=264 q=35.0 speed=11x elapsed=0:00:16.18
    3. -hwaccel cuda -hwaccel_output_format cuda
    CPU: ~10%
    GPU: 100% encode / ~55% decode
    Time: 9 seconds

    Code:
    ffmpeg-8.0-win64-nonfree\FFmpeg.exe -hide_banner -loglevel error -stats -y -vsync 0 -hwaccel cuda -hwaccel_output_format cuda -itsoffset -1.726 -fflags +genpts -i "test_3min_hevc.mkv" -vf fps=24000/1001 -map 0:0 -c:v hevc_nvenc -cq 30 -aspect 1.78 -an -sn -dn -metadata:g encoding_tool="clever FFmpeg-GUI" "test_3min_hevc_hwaccel_cuda_output_cuda.mkv"
    Result:
    Code:
    frame=4280 fps=450 q=35.0 speed=18.8x elapsed=0:00:09.50
    Suggestion:

Change all folder-selection prompts to the standard dialog rather than the tree-style dialog to make pasting paths easier.

    v3.4.7.10 feedback

Videos longer than 24 hours can now be opened.
The changes to the Cut page and the Burned-in subtitle window work and look great.
    Thanks for implementing this.

  15. I’m testing the Burn-In subtitle feature and noticed a couple of issues:

    1. Subtitle sync problem
The subtitles appear correctly in the preview, but after encoding is completed, the burned-in subtitles are out of sync by about 1 second (they appear later than they should).
I tested with nvdec → hevc-nvenc and x264 (AVC). I’ll test software decoders now to see if that makes any difference.

EDIT: None → x264 (AVC) produced an in-sync file. I’ll add more results as I test. < [Ignore this as it was tested on a different file. Different file produced an in-sync file.]

    EDIT 2:
The issue above occurs with this specific file regardless of decoder or encoder settings. If anyone wants to take a look, let me know. More info: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/396490-clever-FFmpeg-GUI-small-FFmpeg-UI-fully-por...02#post2786532

    2. Subtitle filename issue
Tools such as gMKVExtractGUI export subtitles with names like:
    test_track3_[eng].srt
If a subtitle file contains [brackets] in its filename, Clever FFmpeg fails with the task error. It's due to ffmpeg error: “Trailing garbage after a filter: .srt”
It would be helpful if Clever displayed a warning dialog advising users to rename subtitle files before importing them or handle it internally.

    3. "The Drag & Drop subtitle file here" area should also function as a clickable button. Currently, it only accepts drag-and-drop, but would be better if clicking this area also opens a standard file-open dialog. Edit:Not needed

Haha, I didn’t realize that “OK” changes to “Select” when choosing an External File

Anyway, I just discovered that my subtitle out-of-sync issue happens consistently with a specific file. It’s a 3-minute HEVC file with embedded SRT subtitle. No matter which decoder or encoder I use, the output ends up out-of-sync. Clever’s Verify function shows no errors for the file.

I cut 1 minute from this file using Clever’s Cut feature. Now, when I burn in the subtitles, the output comes out perfectly in sync. I’m honestly really confused.

Would you be interested in taking a look at the file?

I think it would be great if this could simply appear under all the main action buttons like Encode, Extract, Scan, Cut, etc. There’s already some empty space there, and it would be a perfect place to display the ffmpeg command. It would also make learning ffmpeg a lot easier while experimenting with different options.

Maybe you could even add a small “Copy Command” button, so users can copy the ffmpeg command without having to manually select the whole text.

You could also include options for this in Clever’s settings menu, so everyone can customize it the way they prefer. For example:

    FFmpeg Command Display Options
    • Always show ffmpeg command under the command button
    • Show only when hovering over the command button
    • Don’t show by default, but allow right-clicking the command button to copy the command

[] are special characters and have to be escaped (shell command). I'll do this.

  23. FFmpeg sometimes gives super clear error messages like this one:

    [vob @ 0000000002765c40] Unsupported audio codec. Must be one of mp1, mp2, mp3, 16-bit pcm_dvd, pcm_s16be, ac3 or dts.
When we see something like that, we don’t even need to copy Clever’s FFmpeg command and test it ourselves externally to see if it gives us some hint. Just seeing the message would tell us what to do next.

Maybe Clever could show the FFmpeg error instead of the generic “There was an error. The task failed.” popup?

    v3.4.7.11 feedback

    Strange behavior at video encoding:
It appears that if the resolution of the source video is not one of those supported by DNxHD and you switch to DNxHR, the settings for “Profile” and its drop-down menu are missing. However, if your encoder is already set to DNxHR and you open video encoding, the settings are displayed.
EDIT: Sometimes the DNxHR settings disappear when you switch to DNxHD and then back.

Video encoding, Options, "Modify" doesn't say much, so perhaps use "Modify image" or "Video image", because "Image adjustment" is too long.

    Burned-in subtitle:
Why do we need the values for Background 0, 1, 2?
    You get the same results using only Background transparency between 0 - 100% (0 = 100%, 1 = 0%, 2 = 1-99%).

Why not using "Font size (pixel)" instead of "FontSize (pixel)"?

The text on the “Select” button is positioned two pixels higher than “Cancel”. It is the same when the button is selected.

  28. All right. Thank you.

    Batch tasks:
How about moving the "Delete tasks" button next to the "None/All" button?
    Similar to the Join page.

    HWA decoding:
PLS also add cuda for "Scan for errors".

    Unused processed files:
Using the light blue color for the "Delete files" button obove Quit?

And maybe a second "Delete" button appear next to None/All, only when you deselect one or more files, as this button is much closer.
Yes, I know, that might be a bit too much.

  29. MJPEG (Motion JPEG) is a video compression format where each frame of a video
is compressed as a separate JPEG image. Key characteristics include:

    | Aspect | Details |
    |--------|---------|
    | Compression | Intra-frame compression (each frame compressed independently) |
    | Quality | Good visual quality, especially for scenes with little motion |
    | Use Cases | Screen recordings, surveillance cameras, video conferencing |
    | Pros | Simple compression, easy to edit, good for static scenes |
    | Cons | Less efficient for high-motion video, larger file sizes compared to modern codecs |

Creating a Video Clip with MJPEG using FFmpeg

    Code:
    ffmpeg -i input_source -c:v mjpeg output.avi
Convert an image sequence to MJPEG:

    Code:
    ffmpeg -framerate 30 -i image_%03d.jpg -c:v mjpeg output.avi
    Screen recording with MJPEG:

    Code:
    ffmpeg -video_size 1920x1080 -framerate 30 -f gdigrab -i desktop -c:v mjpeg output.avi
    Convert existing video to MJPEG:

    Code:
    ffmpeg -i input_video.mp4 -c:v mjpeg -q:v 2 output.avi
    Parameters
-c:v mjpeg: Set video codec to Motion JPEG
-q:v: Quality setting (2-31, lower is better quality)
    .avi: Recommended container for MJPEG
