The language code must be 3 char long and embedded in brackets.
If there are already brackets in the filename (as in your example), then the language code must be before them.

This should work for your example:
How Ukraine's devastating surprise attack on Russia is a game changer for global military strategy (esp)[DMa71RVpJcA].vtt

    EDIT:
I have seen that most programs use the naming convertion
    .language code.extension

I will therefore change the recognition so that
ISO 639-1 (2 chars) and ISO 639-2 (3 chars) are both recognized this way.

No big deal, but srt has been around for a long time and is well-recognized. Some media players won't let me move ass subs around the screen like I can with srt sub. Thanks anyway.

You have not yet downloaded and tested the new version that I sent you as a link.
Do that and report here whether the new subtitle language recognition works with your subtitles.

Now en and es show on Multiplex page, but won't show in the video. eng and spa are needed to show as English and Spanish in the muxed video. Maybe add one more step: if en, then make it eng; if es, than make it spa.

    Thanks.

    Tested with subtitle.en.srt and subtitle.es.srt.
Both are recognized by clever FFmpeg-GUI and properly muxed.
Mediainfo reports english and spanish, VLC Player too.
Tested on my TV, works as aspected.

    3.4.2 Feedback

Automatic language recognition from subtitle/audio and insertion in filename:
The language recognition include numbers and special characters.
Not sure if this might be limited to letters only as multiplexing only writes letters or the tag stay empty?

    ---

    Default/Forced streams:
Info: After muxing to mp4/mkv, the default flag does not show up in the app. I remember that you already told me that this is a ffmpeg bug. The forced flag appear.

When I set forced and write to mp4, MediaInfo show:
    Forced : Yes / No
I would expect to see Yes only. Not sure if ffmpeg is writing correctly.

MediaInfo show the forced flag also for audio streams in mkv containes. Can ffmpeg handle that?

For me it's strange that you can use the forced flag on multiple streams at the same time!

I've changed the recognition to the more used naming convention (subtitle.en.srt, subtitle.eng.srt).

    Default/Forced streams:

The default/forced flag only works properly with mkv.
With mp4, mov the default flag is always set for the first stream of type, regardless of whether you have set it or not.
The forced flag, on the other hand, is not written by the mp4/mov muxer, although it is set correctly.
This is a known FFmpeg bug, not yet fixed.

MediaInfo show the forced flag also for audio streams in mkv containes. Can ffmpeg handle that?
I don't think so. With clever FFmpeg-GUI the forced flag for audio streams cannot be set.

Does not work for me. I use Potplayer and MPV player.

en and es show on the mux page.

The subs are muxed but the language names are missing. MKVToolnix can display the language names with en and es.

    Okay!

Perhaps you could check the language column on the multiplex page for exactly three letters while typing? Or use a background color finding numbers or special characters!
But it is not that important!

Thanks for the clarification with Default/Forced streams!

You are right, ffmpeg's buggy mp4/mov muxer cannot handle ISO 639-1 (2 character) language codes.
I've tested with mkv, and there is all fine.

Will add a stop message for ISO 639-1 codes and mp4/mov.

    EIA 608/708 captions:
When I load a source (without EIA 608/708 captions), the numericUpDown index selection show stream 0-20. Are these permanent placeholders before a scan has been processed?

Because when you select a higher number as the video stream like 5 and click Extract, you end up in error messages instead of "No captions were found!"

A pettiness: The ISO 639-2 help page from the multiplex page has the X close button. When you use it, the hook at "Show language codes" remain.

    ---

Simple remux currently appears, if only the source file is in the grid.
In fact, it could appear as long as only source streams are selected, regardless of other streams are in the grid.

This values are wrong. Admitted range is -1 to 1.
Already fixed in the latest beta.

    Caused by the wrong values...

That's already done in the latest beta.
    It now works like this:
Regardless of the number of existing streams in the mux grid,
the simple remux button is visible as long as all selected streams come from the same source.

The beta will be released soon...

  17. I just noticed that Crop opens a separate window and doesn't replace the previous one. Is that intentional?

    Chapters

    a) In the Chapters help window, the button texts could be displayed in bold for better reading and a small text change could be made too.
    Image
[Attachment 87339 - Click to enlarge]

    b) The help window disappears when you click Create chapters.

    c) Info: You get an error when you click Edit chapters although Chapters.txt has been created in the target folder:
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): Das System kann den angegebenen Pfad nicht finden
This is because the path/version to Microsoft Notepad (my chosen editor) has changed due to an update.

    Yes.

    a) In the Chapters help window, the button texts could be displayed in bold for better reading and a small text change could be made too.
    Can be done.

    b) The help window disappears when you click Create chapters.
Will change it to leave it open until the chapters page is closed.

Of course. If you change the locations of the assist apps (virtualdub, text editor), you must update the paths in the settings.

  19. Of course. I mean other users might be experiencing the same issue, and the error description isn't entirely clear if you don't know about this Notepad changes happened probably in the May Windows 11 update preview.

    Ah, ok.
I'll add a warning message with missing paths.

Hey, Sorry to bother you but i could not find anything on this thread about bink media files. Are you planning on adding support for them in the future? As of right now if you try to use the GUI on them instead of CLI FFmpeg it comes up with an error that the file is empty or defective. Cheers

clever FFmpeg-GUI can handle Bink1 video.
If your file is a Bink.exe, you have to convert it to Bink.bik first.
This can be done with the RADVideoTools.

    Two more things!

When a source has chapters, you get a "Target file: xxx.ass" information.
When a source has no chapters, that "Lable 2" text appear.
I guess that "Lable 2" text is superfluous!
    Image
[Attachment 87344 - Click to enlarge]

    ---

It's logical to have the "Do not mux source chapters" option on the multiplex page only for embedded chapters.
But it would be more convenient and consistent to offer this option for chapter files and created chapters as well, maybe with a general "Do not mux chapters".
Even if you have just created the chapters!

I've rewrote the whole chapters thing; If there are embedded chapters, then they are activated by default.
You can now activate or deactivate the chapters (embedded, external file, created).
The status is also adopted in the mux grid.

    3.4.2.01 Feedback

I can confirm that the following works as described in the previous threads:

Automatic subtitle/audio language recognition read/write in stream filename.
In the “Language” column, a maximum of three and only letters are allowed.
Add a stop message for ISO 639-1 codes and mp4/mov.
ISO 639-2 help page X close button removed.
EIA 608/708 captions range is -1 to 1. Standard -1.
Help window stay open until the chapters page is closed.
Add a warning message with missing paths of the assist app text editor.
You can now activate/deactivate chapters (embedded, external file, created).
Simple remux button is visible as long as all selected streams come from the same source.

You removed the complete Target file information from the Chapters page, not only the "Label2" text. I think the information for created and external files might still be usefull, especially when working with multiple chapter files.

  28. Hi,

The newest version does not automatically remove muxed streams like the version you sent me. There is now a pop-up message that says something like the file is successfully muxed that forces me to close it before I can mux the next file. The version you sent me automatically remove the muxed streams and does not waste my time with the pop up message. Can you please send me that one again? I replaced that one with newest version without making a copy. I went to the link you provided hoping the that file is still there, but it's gone. Thanks.

This message is intended and is shown only, if there are residual streams after muxing.

No, this file was a temporary file, no longer available.
