I think i may recall something to do with PTS overflow errors way way back in the day, i may not have suffered with the issue, but may have been part of a Forum where this was being sorted out.
Being that my needs for using VRD is a lot more limited than most other users, i can't add anything as to whether it could be an issue with VRD, but i suspect it is to do with recording software/hardware and VRD is picking it up and dumping the error.
Sorry i can't really add much more.

Bridgy - it was worth a try since you are far more knowledgable about video than I am.
Jim - if you come back looking for an answer. Firstly, run Quickstreamfix in VRD to fix the PTS errors on your existing recordings and then look at the settings in your recording software since the source of the problem almost certainly lies there. Further comments on your issues with getting VRD6 working depend on your answers to the questions I've previously asked. -
Hi again, thanks for the helpful comments.
Marayong - I did carefully go through the previous settings on the old PC for both VRD and Elgato and they were both identical on every page. Also, I tried opening some random videos from my collection using VRD and they all throw up this same monochrome screen with the image reduced to 1/6 the size in triplicate(!), so it can't be the Elgato that's at fault, as the VRD displays this with videos from all sources. Never seen this before.
As for upgrading to V6, I open it, insert the upgrade key, it recognises that it's an upgrade key, and says 'click here to continue upgrade'....and of course it takes me to an inactive page.
However, I did apply the Quickstream fix to the 3 videos I've created since getting the new PC, and had success in 2 of them, so not all bad. However, editing them is not fun with the triple image/black & white screen.
I seem to remember having PTS underflow issues a few years ago and the VRD people suggested I turn one of the settings way up as high as it could go....but can't remember what, and this is the 2nd new PC I've had since then so that info is lost.
I'll keep trying, thanks again to all who replied. -
@ JIM096 ............ I have been having flashbacks about this PST issue, and i do actually think it may be related to VRD in some way, so it may have been a topic posted in the old VRD forum many years ago, whether i suffered from this i just can't recall, the 68 year old brain is fading away.
It is moments like these that makes me realize just how lucky we was having Dan Rosen here to help.
I don't really think so, you have a lot of knowledge about stuff that i don't know much about, I think my real knowledge is with editing video files from Cameras, and even then i have only ever done basic Cutting, Titles, and Exporting to other formats.
I know nothing about TV Broadcast and the issues that come with that, and what i used to know about Video conversions back in the Standard Definition days (VHS and Betacam to Digital format) is long lost in the muddy parts of the brain.Last edited by Bridgy; 22nd Feb 2025 at 06:14.

I too can remember querying PTS overflows and being advised to just ignore them and then to tweak a setting in the Options to reduce the occurence. I do think that at one stage they did adjust somnetthing also.
Thiere is a repository of VRD programs on-line and the "other" forum signposts the locaton It might be worth checking whether you are running the latest version of the program -
Update: I looked at 'file output options' on my old PC, and it wasn't quite the same as the version of VRD on the new one. I went into the 'Output mux rate' and changed the following:
TS mux rate to 'Manual'
Mux rate (Kbps) to 50000 (from 10000- this must be what I remember being told to increase by the VRD team when they told me to ramp it up)
So all recordings now edited with a green tick. Only 2 outstanding issues now:
- the screen I'm seeing when I open any video with VRD (V5)
- how to use my update code to enable V6 -
I don't remember if I ever posted on this forum but I've been a member forever.
I first got into VideoReDo because I had a couple of TiVos and I wanted to be able to remove commercials and save my files for watching them later. There is a program called KMTTG for downloading, decrypting, and changing files using QSFix, VideoReDo, etc., into H264 in an MP4 wrapper.
So I bought VideoReDo Suite 4 (Full Price) and went at it. A bunch of things have happened since then, and although I did not use VRD as much as I had hoped to, I've reached a point where I once again work with a lot of video files and would like to use VRD. So, I actually found my emails from back in 2011 when I bought VRD, and I have my Key. VRD Suite 4 is activated again on my computer.
Is there any way for me to upgrade to VRD Suite 6? Or is that a dead issue? Meaning, you're stuck with the last version you purchased? -
Marayong is the resident expert on this topic of getting VRD re-activated or upgraded, especially the Non Pro versions, he should be able to help you.
I have been using VRD almost every day since buying it back in 2013, however after a short trial i decided to buy the Pro version instead because it had a few features that i needed at that time, and ever since then i have always upgraded to new versions and builds as they were released, and the late Dan Rosen always sent me the new installers for each new Build, and whenever we moved to a new version of VRD Dan would issue a new re-activation code as well, as the Pro version activation worked completely different to the Non Pro version, we also had to get another code if installing our VRD Pro onto a new computer.
Anyway, welcome to yet another Thread in another forum dedicated to VRD and those who are still able use it. -
Jim096 ... it was a setting, as I suspected, so at least part of the issue is solved. I've not touched that setting on any of my pcs and have never had a PTS issue, so it is likely due to something in the computer environment .. either your hardware or software, the later referring to other software you may have installed and running in the background ... what they used to call "terminate and stay resident" or TSR. Anyways, solved, in part.
Ok, so your upgrade key looks to be ok, it's just that the upgrade process is falling over. Dan H set up a manual update server and also an automatic one. The later works for some people, not others. Dan has no idea why (call it magic if you like .. did you try dancing around an oak tree wildershins by any chance?). So you'll need to do the manual activation process. I think there's still instructions on this linked from the VRD main page here on videohelp (edit .. yes, there are). Best to read that. But briefly ... enter in the upgrade key to VRD and then you will be presented with the option to activate online or to do a manual activation. Select the later. You will then be presented with two new keys, one generated from the upgrade token called "user token", the other is called the "system id" and that is unique to your hardware & software setup. Go to the manual activation site (https://videoredo.com/), enter the two keys and click "activate". You will then be given a new key which you type into the "activate" field in VRD. If that fails, you'll need to go to the reddit forum (https://www.reddit.com/r/videoredo/) and ask for help from Dan Haddix who frequents there .. there's a patch he has which he'll provide to you which you'll need to install to fix manual activation failures.
As for the screen you are getting with v5 .. any chance you can provide a screen shot?
I'm suspecting it's also some setting causing this problem. Whilst I use v6, it was installed on top of v5 (and v4 and v3 and ..) and I still have a functional install of v5 on this pc, so I loaded it up, opened a video and it played and displayed fine. I have v.5.4.84.771 (24 Sept 2018), which is the most recent version. So the issue is not with v5 itself, but your specific install. Because it seems to be unique to you, it should be fixable.
As for your fix by adjusting the TS mux rate, I found that in the manual but can't find the setting anywhere in my VRD6 or VRD5 installs. Transport Stream Output is not listed under options, so can't check what settings I have.
Edit: Detailed instructions for manually activating are here:

Aeolos67 .... you are stuck, I'm afraid. You can update to the highest v.4 release, but there are no more licences being generated to either upgrade to a newer version or to purchase a newer version. The software to generate new licences is on Dan Rosen's computer(s) and they are now the property of his widow who has been unwilling to help customers in any way. There are even people who purchased VRD but had not yet been issued their licences when Dan R died .. even they have not been able to get anything. Presumably they would have had to contact their banks to try & reverse the payments.

Have you tried QSF ?
Lastly, I upgraded to V6 a few years back, but didn't like it as much and continued to use V5. After the issues above, I installed my V6 but it keeps asking for a software key, and it appears that I only have an upgrade key. Which is a pity, as the trial version shows the correct video while editing, albeit still with a massive PTS underflow at the end. -
The OP has already tried QSF. That fixed the PTS errors with some videos but not all, but he changed a setting to stop the PTS errors. However he still has another issue. As for the upgrade, he has only tried automatic upgrade. He has been advised to try manual upgrade, with instructions.

I have no knowledge of the history or source of the following version of VideoReDo (Pro v6.93.7.836):
Link removed
It is apparently a "modified" version (no registration required) that was uploaded to Archive.org about a year ago.
Out of curiosity and with an abundance of caution I downloaded it to a spare Linux Mint PC intending to try running it within the Linux WINE emulator.
It runs just fine.
Your mileage may vary.
Addendum: I have been a licensed VRD user for over 15 years, purchasing versions 3 through 6.
And now, no further official support or development.Last edited by Baldrick; 25th Feb 2025 at 02:12. Reason: Please don't post link to cracked software/warez. Even if it's abandonware.

After cutting out adverts etc, just use the save function and pick whichever profile you want to use. Profile being the file format for what you save. This seems too obvious, so you probably mean something else? I snip out adverts, then save to the VRD mp4 profile. I can't remember if I've tweaked any of the profile settings. Any video format VRD can save as, it can also edit.
As for the issues with decrypted files .. try running QSF and see if that fixes it? I suspect your decryption software is introducing artifacts into the video which VRD is picking it up because it displays every frame, whilst intelligent media players can skip faulty frames, especially if is interlaced. At 30 or 60 frames a second, video players can drop quite a lot of frames without the viewer noticing any difference. VRD is however designed to show every frame.
Perhaps try a different video editor and see if it has the same problem.
Another thing is that if you are using VRD4, it's pretty elderly and it may not be 100% compatible with the latest codecs. -

Hi everyone, ok well i hope we have now seen the last of the piracy banter and can move on from that to other more important stuff.
I have been in a private conversation with Marayong regarding the differences between VRD TV Suite v6 and VRD Professional, and after doing a google search i just found this short overview (see screenshot) but it does not really explain it in more detail.
I was hoping that someone here could offer a more informed overview, however i realize that most, if not all TV Suite users would not know the differences because they had never used the VRD Pro version to compare, just as i have not used the TV Suite since i moved to the Pro version when i upgraded to v5 from v4, so even i have no idea.
If anyone would like to comment, please type away.

Here's a side by side feature comparison of VRD and VRD Pro from the DRD website:
https://web.archive.org/web/20231106073640/https://www.videoredo.com/en/CompareProducts.htm
Ignore the first column, that's for an obsolete product which DanR no doubt included to show how much better both versions of VRD were. -
Overall there is not really that much difference, both supports 4k, Pro supports h.264 (4:2:2) and ProRes and DNxHD (import only) so i can see why some would not need the Pro version.
I have imported 4k/60p ProRes 422 many times, but can't cut and smart render back to ProRes, has to be another format. -
Keep in mind VRD was conceived for people recording and editing tv broadcasts. Sure, it has other uses, but it will be a long, long time if ever before broadcast tv goes to 4K, let alone 8K, 16K or whatever. The physical & economic restrictions on broadcast tv means that anything more than 1080 HD is a pipe dream. Pay TV & streamers are less restricted, but even for them there are big limitations. Servers are expensive to run and transmitter (satellite & terrestrial) and internet bandwidth is finite.
For the TV market IMO I think that in terms of capability, VRD is pretty future robust .. we ain't going to get 8K tv broadcasts in a long, long time, if ever. In fact IMO the only future concerns I have with VRD are activations and os support - VRD is 32-bit and eventually windows will drop support for 32 bit software, as they have done for 4 bit, 8 bit and 16 software. But whilst this may be a concern for those on the younger side of life, for the rest of us even that is a moot point. -
+1
I have a old Win10 machine, hopefully VRD continues to operate on that.
I also have a lovely "helpful" notification from m$oft telling me to upgrade to win11 since support ceases later this year, or use other non-viable options including spending lots of $ to purchase a new PC. Well, m$oft (opinion: appears to be a company of rich people likely unaware of the cost of a loaf of bread) thanks but no, go jump in the lake -
Yep TV broadcast is not going to change, it is a very costly thing for TV networks to broadcast anything to TV, so to keep free to air TV viable they they are still going to broadcast their stuff in very low quality, even if the content is filmed in 4k or higher.
Pay TV does offer some better broadcast quality, but i don't pay to watch TV content so if i can't find something to watch on my live tv free to air channels, i switch over to Samsung TV channels, or i might watch something on my daughters Netflix channel. -
Hydra .. at the risk of getting off topic .. despite claims to the contrary from M$ & many others, EOL for Win10 (or older versions for that matter) does not mean that your pc will stop working or even that you'll suddenly be infested by who knows what because of security flaws. A good AV package will protect you from the worst of the internet (apart from conspiracy theories, trolls & the like). Going past EOL with the os does mean you may be increasingly liable for external attacks, but unless you are running a bank that's not a major concern. The biggest danger of being attacked is the user not the os. Of more concern is that things like security certificates will no longer be updated, but you can do that manually if you know how. And if you are worried about an out of date os you can always subscribe to a patch service (I've used 0Patch for years), which is cheaper than buying a new pc and the next version of windoze. I safely ran a Win7 machine until last year when the hardware failed. Keeping security certificates up to date was the biggest hassle I had, that and finding modern web browsers that would run on Win7 (I found forks of firefox & chrome for Win7). If you stick with Win10, PM me and I can send you a script for automatically updating certificates for EOL versions of windoze, if you need it.
As for the Win11 warnings .. you can disable them easily enough .. and the sky won't fall in.
Getting back onto topic .. one advantage of using an older OS is that it provides compatibility for no longer updated software, such as VRD. Since VRD is 32 bit software, once windows moves to 128-bit, support for 32-bit software will end - windows only supports software that has the same "bits" as it does and software that's one step below ... so a 64 bit os will support 64 & 32 bit software but not 16bit. So once M$ moves to 128bit windows, in order to continue using VRD users will need a 64 or 32-bit windows install, either on a dedicated pc or as a virtual machine. If you chose the later, that's a good reason to keep any old Windoze licences. True, there're no plan yet to introduce 128bit windows and most comments online say "What's the point, there's no need!" To which I reply with the infamous Bill Gates quote "640K ought to be enough for anybody!" I have 64G of ram on my current PC, a wee bit more than 640K.A 128bit machine & os could, for instance, possibly allow you to run a language model AI on your pc or phone, rather than relying it to run on an external server.
Edit: And yes, there are 128bit PCs on the market. -
I love Win 10 pro, and i will be hanging on for as long as i can, but i am prepping myself and accepting that i will need to use it one day, however, if and when i finally get my new 24 Core 24" Dell Optiplex All in One desktop pc (like an iMac) this year (before june) it will have Win 11 pro, so i would like to retain it if i can, but there will be issues with my VRD Pro because of the way that Dan Rosen set up the Pro activation, when you get a new computer you had to let Dan know and he would manually issue a new Activation ID code for the new computer, and you then used your activation key to re-activate it on the new computer, however it had to be uninstalled from the previous computer before activation would work, as you can only have your VRD licensed to 1 computer.
Marayong has eluded many times to running an image of the current windows (with VRD installed) and install the imaged drive into a new computer, which i tried with my mums old dell laptop, but my VRD required re-activation because the unique hardware ID obviously recognized the different hardware setup in my mums laptop, and i was not prepared to try the activation because it may well deactivate it on my own Metabox laptop.
If the Win 10 image from my laptop was put onto the new Dell computer when i get it, i can then go into the windows update centre and do the in place upgrade to Win 11 pro, but do it so that it retains all of my existing software.
I would need to be prepared to lose the activation on my metabox laptop when this time came.
When i do get the new Dell pc i will leave Win 10 on the metabox laptop i think, it will be fore backup or for the wife to use. -
Hi again, thanks to all who have replied to me. I managed to fix the black/white screen issue with the images in 1/6th the size. After much exploring, I went into Tools>Options>Playback devices>Video Driver and changed this setting from 'EVR' to 'VMR9' (whatever those are) and it solved the problem.
Only issue now is the upgrade to V6. To recap, I have an upgrade token, I purchased it in 2022, used it once or twice and went back to V5. I'd still like to have V6 installed on my new PC though. What's stopping me is that I am never at any stage presented with a 'Manual activation' option. It goes straight to recognising that I'm using a token, asks me if I wish to upgrade fully, and then it takes me to a defunct page. Any ideas? -
Hi folks, technical help requested.
I have an AverMedia EZRecorder I use to capture video I want to save. I have done this from many different sources for years, and then used Video ReDo 4 and later 6.62.6.833 to trim commercials from the recordings. The unit saves H.264 mpeg4 files to an NTFS drive that I later connect to my Win11 machine.
I have a few recent recordings made from my MacBook Pro which play well untrimmed, but when I trim them with Video ReDo 6.626.833, I get an output video with mangled audio. The "Output Processing Complete" window shows half the run time I expect and a high number of "Audio resync frames removed" (75K for a one-hour show), and when played, as expected, the audio is mangled due to the dropped frames. The output size and run time of the output video is what I would expect. I can repeat this failure most of the time, but one time I got a trimmed show that worked; other than minor details about what I trimmed, I didn't do anything different. Even the output of a QuickStream Fix run has mangled audio.
Any thoughts on how to debug or fix this? Thanks! -
Jim, I can't duplicate a new install to check exactly how you do it since I have once licence and it's already used. But ... assuming you haven't tried this (you probably have), install VRD6, click on help in the menu bar, then click 'enter software key'. Type in your name (that the upgrade key was issued to, including any middle initial or name, if used when getting the key), then enter in the upgrade key.
I can't go past that step, but it is supposed to internally generate two new codes and then present you with the option to activate online or manually. Click manually and then go to the website I previously gave, enter in the two codes to the website and you will get a 4th code which you enter into the manual activation field in VRD, which will then install.
To get past this popup:
[Attachment 85904 - Click to enlarge]
you will need to have a valid name/upgrade key.
More details and screen shots of the subsequent windows can be found here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/videoredo/comments/1b9vrwa/how_to_use_manual_activation_site/
There is one error on that page. The manual activation site is not: http://videoredo.com/activate
but it is now: http://videoredo.com/
It is very important that the name you enter at the first step matches the name that is attached to the upgrade token in the email you got from DRD (the company that made VRD).
VMR9 & EVR are video rendering protocols .. basically video drivers that allows a program to interact properly with your video card or chip. EVR is newer than VMR9, but both are getting on in years and there are newer protocols available now. The issue is that VMR9 & EVR have different hardware compatibilities. Both may work or only one. VMR9, EVR etc come with windows (or an update), it's just a matter of picking which one is most compatible with your video card/chip.
There is a section on this in the VRD help file (or manual), however unfortunately Dan has not updated this section of the help since v.5 so while it mentions VMR9 (and older drivers) it doesn't mention EVR. But the explanation is still valid. Just search for "VMR9" in the help file. -
rthurlow ... my immediate suspicions is that it may be one of two possibilities.
Firstly, you've either had a series of glitchy recordings (it does happen when recording FTA broadcasts, satellite or cable tv). I get that occasionally and the best solution is to re-record the video if you can. Maybe check any changed settings/updates on your EZRecorder.
The other suspicion is that you are recording in an apple environment and trying to edit in a windows environment. Apple has introduced a whole lot of proprietary codecs, compression formats and even file types that have limited support in windows. Worst case some audio/photos/video created on an apple device are unviewable on windows without first installing additional software to enable support. this was especially an issue with Win7 & 8 but it still exists with Win10/11.
Having a look on another forum someone also posted an issue with audio sync errors. The fix there was to apply QSF *BEFORE* editing out the adverts etc.
There are also some suggestions you could try here. The OP also had a lot of audio sync errors:
https://community.getchannels.com/t/tve-beta-recordings-causing-problems-with-windows-...7837/48?page=3
From this post apparently this is one area where VRD has superior performance than VRD Pro.
