  1. Vaper,

Thanks for the info. At this point, it looks like there's no reason to change my current setup... until they come out with. affordable hdmi capture cards.

Serious? I always thought these boxes weren't capable of outputting HD over Component, not that it was a restriction by my cable provider! If I had have been able to record the component I wouldn't have bothered with all of these HDMI to Component and HDMI decrypter devices

Yup. They're the primary boxes that Time Warner Cable uses. That's got to be a cable issue. I've even captured things from PPV.
I was under the impression this was because the US lawmakers passed a law that allows for cable card connections for consumers in the US. In Canada, no such law exists. You are supposed to watch TV, not archive it.

Looks SOOOOO much better than HDMI to Component

That's digital cable box -> hdmi -> 1x4 HDMI Splitter -> hdmi -> Black Magic Intensity Pro

    Woot.

Can you tell me what stripper did you use this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/220864833576 or http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0089DVCT8/ with Black Magic Intensity Pro

I know this thread started quite some time ago. An HDMI splitter may allow and might not allow capturing of the full signal. There are different versions of HDCP but here is what I've come to know about HDMI Vs Component: The manufactures at texas Instruments (TI) built the HDCP chips for Intel. I just so happen to have in my possession the data sheets for all the HDCP chips.

The input on the HDCP Tx chips tapped off the analog component ('Y' 'Pb' 'Pr' and the SPDIF. The HDCP transmitter chip does have a slight upconvert to it but not by much of any difference to analog HD component. So how the input feeds into the HDMI HDCP chips: Analog HD Component out is the input, SPDIF out is the input.

The Component and Coax/Optical (SPDIF) output on the back of a Digital TV box from the service provider can connect to a converter adapter that has the SPDIF (either coax or Optical) input and component input to HDMI with compliance to HDCP 1.2 thus allowing viewing and recording on HDMI input devices! Enjoy!

  6. Hello all, Although I am a newb to this site, I have spent days reading up on my issue. Most solutions appear in this thread. I have a simple dilemma and cant find a simple answer. yes, I need to bypass the HDCP function. I got a quote from moome for a VF01 for $290 - at the same time I have read that there are $20 ~ $40 1x(X) HDMI splitters on ebay that will "strip" HDCP - I do not want to waste money but at the same time, I want it to work, now and forever.

My set up is as follows:

Sony DA5700ES Receiver inputs: Comcast DVR, Samsung BD Player, Wii (Netflix)
Receiver output A to: Samsung PN64D8000 Plasma
Receiver output B to: Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC-HD50 HDMI input

    I then go from the Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC-HD50's DV/HDV output to the Sony's HES-V1000 DV/HDV input

As soon as I route something to the ADVC, I loose signal to both units and my Samsung display has a big blue box saying my "splitter" is not allowing the signal to be displayed (HDCP)

Again, simple question to you all:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/261171136194

    or

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/261111668639

    or

VF01 brand new from moome for $290

    THANKS!!!!

  8. thanks for the super fast advice!
I see you are using a PC with a capture solution.

I am using hardware only with no PC anywhere... will this (your) solution still work?

Sure damn will! As soon as you strip the HDCP any HDMI device capable of recording will be able to record without a problem. I am simply using a Black Magic Intensity Pro card for the computer. It doesn't support HDCP so was unable to view live TV and couldn't record either! Passing it through the splitter and I can both view and record without a problem

  10. Thanks Jamie! you just saved me over $200 - Thank you Sir!! George

  11. The only reason to get the Moome device would be for the additional processing (colorspace conversion, etc.).

  12. Hello Jagabo, if it only did scaling as well (which I know is not really do-able) I would have bough it already. If I had the cash, I would buy it as an investment but for now, I need to go cheap. I have moome's contact info so I will always have that as plan "b" option later when I have more $$$ - thanks again for the advice!!!

Pretty much any cable box in Canada. I've got Scientific Atlanta 8300HD PVR, 4250HD, a bunch of new cisco boxes. All of them turn off component as soon as you view a high def channel over 480p

    -Jamie M.
I have the 4250HD in Canada and up until now have been using the component output at 1080i and 720p to input to my Hauppauge HD PVR 1219 but I had to unplug the hdmi cable to use it. If you plug a hdmi cable in the 4250HD box the component and composite signal turn off on most channels with the exception you noted.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

I bought a card on Ebay from China and tested: with HDMI IN and HDMI OUT.
    No other connectors, PCI-e card
I can see the picture from the settopbox on my pc, connected via HDMI in 1080i that contains HDCP. This via a program delivered with the card.
I can record the video on the pc with the same soft in 1080i in MPG2, no MPG4.
The card has also HDMI out that goes to my TV and I see the video on the TV in 1080i
Other lower resolutions seems supported, not tested.
I use Windows 8 64bit in desktop mode. the driver on the CD is not working, take the driver from their site.
Everything in PAL. My pc has Asus board with Intel i7-3770 and 8GB RAM. The CPU is doing nearly nothing during playback and recording! I use Nvidia GT520 video card. Not tested with the internal Intel video HDMI.

card HD72B with HDMI In and OUT

was delivered in 10 day from China to Europe

  18. Hello!

Maybe someone can help me here, i dont want to create a new Thread because i have a HDCP stripper issue ^^

My Problem: I want to strip a HDCP protected signal into my Computer

    My Setup:

Reciever with HDMI HDCP Output -->

(HDMI to VGA with HDCP support)
    http://www.amazon.de/HDMI-VGA-Konverter-kompatibel-Converter/dp/B004RUBIOG/ref=sr_1_1?...4670067&sr=1-1

--> VGA to 3x Component Cable (and 3.5 mm to Component 2x Audio Cable)
    --> http://www.hauppauge.de/site/products/data_hdpvr.html
    --> USB into my PC

Notice: The Hauppauge HD PVR has also 5x Component Outputs to connect a TV, so you can record while watching on the TV. I dont have a TV with component Input, so i just let these Outputs free. Maybe this is the point why the box dont want to work, but i'll come to that.

With this concept, I installed the lastest drivers and software for the Hauppauge HD PVR.

But now I have a huge huge problem: When i start the Hauppauge Software (arcsoft totalmedia extreme 2), i just have a black screen. I changed the resolution on my reciever to 720p (and tried lower ones) but no resolution does work.

Could someone tell me what i do wrong? I will be very thankful!!!

    Sincerly

This comment won't solve your problem but will eliminate a question. You don't have to connect anything to the HD PVR component output if you don't want to. It won't affect the recorder. The component pass-through would however show you the video in real time. When you do finally get this working you'll notice a 1 second or so delay on your computer display compared to the real life signal.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  20. Thank you very much!

That is your problem. A VGA signal cannot be converted to a component signal with a simple cable. It requires active electronics. Those VGA-to-component cables are for particular devices that output a component signal on a D15 (VGA) port. I bet if you check with the place that sold you that cable they will have some small text saying something like "be sure your device supports component over VGA."

  22. Wow, I didnt know that, thanks! i just thought Component and VGA are both Analog and convertation beetween them just means "rewireing" them!

Am I right, that the HDFuryII (which is a HDMI to VGA Konverter supplied with VGA to Component Cables) works with a "normal" VGA to Component Cable because the HDFuryII supports Component over VGA?

    http://www.amazon.de/HDFury2-Special-Edition-HDMI-VGA-Konverter/dp/B001Q7TSH2/ref=sr_1...4681158&sr=1-2

These VGA to Component Cables are supplied with the HDFuryII:

    http://www.hdfury.com/gallery/artwork-gallery/

That could be the reason, why the HDFuryII costs 140 € and my Ligawo HDMI to VGA converter just 40 ^^

So with the HDFuryII everything should work fine, if no device or cable is damaged and all settings (like resolution e.t.c) are correct?

Wow, if thats really the case, I would run out and shout "THANK YOU JAGABO AND GL99", because I am searching for the error in my setup since several days...

  23. Yes, the HD Fury II converts HDMI+HDCP to analog VGA or component video. The adapter cable for converting the VGA (D15) connector to component connectors (RCA) is supplied. That should be all you need to connect your HDMI+HDCP source to the Hauppauge HD PVR.

There are HDMI to component adapters that are much cheaper than the HD Fury, and almost all will strip HDCP since the ones that don't get so many customer complaints and returns (look for terms like "PS3" and "iPad" in the listing as clues to HDCP strippers; this also applies to Chinese capture cards).

Can't remember if this one was brought up before. Looks like there is also a 1x2 HDMI splitter that strips HDCP.

The initial post there was kinda iffy since he was already using the AVerTV driver trick, but others confirmed it later in the thread.

  25. Thank you jagabo and thank you vaporeon800 for your help!

I bought a similar splitter (its from ligawo, but that's just the German Import Brand), but I didn't know that it rips the HDCP away.

However, I will stick to the HDFuryII, because I already bought the HD PVR over eBay (from a private seller -> no return). Furthermore, the HD PVR is from Hauppauge, so the chance, that this device will the supported with new drivers over the years are higher. Besides, I bought alot of things for my setup already, like good cables or the hdmi splitter, some of them not over Amazon or official eBay traders, so i cant return them. I could sell them again, but overall that's too much afford now. Just need the HDFuryII and everything will work (hopefully ^^). Plus, the HD PVR can record from composite Devices (like our old VHS Recorder), so we can archive our old videos.

This card vaporeon is a really really good and cheap alternative to my setup now. That's the way I should have done it from the beginning. But at this point, I'll just stick with the HDFuryII. But when my setup doesn't work with the HDFuryII neither, ALL THIS CRAP (*rageface* ) will go back to the vendors or sold over eBay and nice little red shiny card from China will replace all of these things!

Thank you very much for your help!

It probably doesn't. I have one with a casing that looks identical (different silk screening), but I guess the innards differ from the ViewHD 1x2 since mine came out before the 3D thing.

    software for HD72B card:
-I could make it work in Virtualdub, but there is some jitter after 1 minute, may be it can be solved, I'm not familiar with Virtualdub
-PotPlayer: it works, but took some time to config. It's in webcam/other mode. Seems perfect result
-Honestech HD DVR 2.5 : included with the card, but take the version on their site for Win8/64bit. Works OK +record in MPG2 1080i
-mpc-hc: OK, also in fullscreen mode, after finding the correct settings

Sometimes the card was not recognised after cold start of the pc. After warm start is is ok. Also sometimes no sound, but OK after putting my amplifier in tuner mode and then back to video to the pc via HDMI. Those 2 problems are may be caused because I go from the settopbox to an amplifier and then to the pc. ALL connections are HDMI 1080i PAL
With all programs I had the problem that I saw only 1/4 of the picture. I use my pc with 200% DPI increase in Windows8 because I use the TV as display. When I say to Honestech soft to start without this DPI increase it is OK (via the icon and compatibility settings from Windows). This trick was NOT working with Virtualdub and Potplayer, but I found other settings in those softs to see the full picture.

But I'm very happy with this card, everything connected with HDMI, via amplifier/pc/TV, it strips HDCP and I can record!

    Hi!

Did you try to record from other sources like Bluray player, DVD (HDMI), PS3 and even Cable or Sat boxes all over HDMI? And with the Blackmagic Media Express also works?

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello Jamie,

    I am STRIPPINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

Got to love Chinese rip off tech!!

Weird thing is it has to be upstream of the receiver.

in my case, if i want to "archive" something off of the dvr (or live tv), i need to put the "device" between the dvr and the receiver.

out 1 to the receiver, out 4 to the recorder.

    love it!!

    Thanks!!!

  30. Bought the 1x4 splitter from China through Ebay (TomTop shop) and shipped to me in UK:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220864833576?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Works a treat. Can now archive stuff off my PVRs to free up space.

Then noticed there are UK sellers so got one from here out of interest to compare:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-WAY-HD-hub-1080p-1-x-4-HDMI-3D-Splitter-Amplifier-HDTV-1-3...item43b0856246

Works fine also, so this isn't just confined to a batch only available direct from China. Cost the same as the China one ~£30.

Can now put the HD Fury on Ebay!

    Ade.
