actually, i think that sample (on previous page) was 25 fps. if you open in avisynth script and scrub through it, you will see a duplicate every 24th and 25th frames, repeatedly. something like that. maybe something screwy on my end, i don't know. i captured another video, 30,000 leagues under the sea with the same equipment and setup mentioned in post #480, and mediainfo says the same thing, 25 fps.
seems you are correct, something screwy. my roxio will not let me set it to NTSC. it keeps reverting back to PAL for some domb reason.
here is another short sample for anyone that wants to review it.Last edited by vhelp; 4th Jan 2014 at 01:46.

This is exactly my experience. My HD-PVR died and I had been capturing HD from Dish and then then DirecTV for years. So,when I got the HD-PVR2 I was disappointed. I had not idea that the original ignored the HDCP crap.
I did become extremely happy when I got the ViewHD splitter and am capturing 1080p it all its glory. And the hardware and software suite of the PVR2 works much better than the original as well.

I'm looking to capture video (and audio) from my Sky HD box in the best possible quality audio & video.
I have an HDCP stripper which appears to be working fine.
I have this capture card: http://www.amazon.co.uk/HD-Capture-CaptureX-Skydigital-Recorder/dp/B004CCQVHS/ref=sr_1...rds=B004CCQVHS
When I capture, I have two issues:
1) When using Adobe Premier Elements 9, the image in the preview screen is distorted. However, the captured image is fairly good, but there are 'jagged' edges on some of the picture.
2) When using the software that is provided with the card, I have similar 'jagged' edges on some of the video.
Can anyone assist me? I don't mind purchasing a better capture card if necessary.
-
If you've been reading through the thread you'll notice samples are often provided. I suggest you do the same. 10 seconds of a scene with steady movement will be plenty.
You say there's a problem in the Preview screen. Have you rendered out any video? If so, do you see the same problem in the output?
-
I will try and figure out where and how to post some samples.
To answer your questions:
- The preview screen is distorted. The .avi file saved by Premier is not distorted in the same way, its mostly fine, but I think frames are dropping and that's the problem. Also, there is no sound.
- When using the software that comes with the card, there is preview sound, but no sound recorded to the .avi file. Also, there are many more dropped frames that on premier.
Is there any other software I can try, I think it may be a software issue.
I am using a dedicated hard drive to record. The system drive is an SSD.

Please can you let me know which one? (PM is necessary.)
I have tried this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330935149418
And can confirm it does NOT work with the Sky HD 1TB box. I get an error "This television does not support HDCP, please contact Sky on telephone xxxxxxxx" or similar message.
-
Yes, I was very surprised. I bought that box fully expecting it to work.
To be honest I didn't even try the capture box (AVermedia Live Gamer Portable) because the Sky box would not output a picture even to the television with no capture box attached.
Did you have to plug things in in any particular sequence? Maybe I will try again and power everything off and on again.
EDIT: Just tried it all again, powered everything off, then reattaching everything and powering the TV on first, then the Sky box and it works!!! Thanks for your post - I had previously given up, but since you posted saying yours worked it gave me the impetus to try again!Last edited by Chippy_boy; 5th Jan 2014 at 07:39.

Could anyone here tell me if any of these HDMI splitter can disable the HDCP from the PS3/PS4, allowing you to capture the games via HDMI.

Yes. I can perfectly record PS3 with the Avermedia LGP, in PC-free mode, using this exact ViewHD splitter from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004F9LVXC/
The quality is excellent but only with the splitter. HDMI is a must for the LGP as its component quality is awful (at least my unit). Feel free to ask me any questions on this topic.Last edited by SixFiftyThree; 7th Jan 2014 at 02:05.

Thanks for that, got me thinking there must be something wrong with my setup, tried another sd card which was a SanDisk Extreme Pro® SDHC™ UHS-I Card - 8GB worked a treat. The card I was using was a cheap 32gb supposedly Class 10 which actually worked using the PS3 Cable Supplied with the LGP si I guess outputting HDMI must be doing something different than outputting from the PS3 port?
BTW I tried to record a Blu Ray Disc using the PS3, I got the same error. I'm not bothered about that as I'm just trying to record clips from SKY HD.
Thanks

Something I have noticed (which is a little annoying) with the LGP is that because it only supports FAT32 on the SD (not ExFAT or NTFS) then you are limited to 4gb file sizes (of course). This means 33 minutes of recording only - anything longer and the recording is automatically split across multiple files. This would not be a problem in itself, but unfortunately the LGP drops a frame or two every time, so if you are wanting to edit the clips back together into a single movie for example, you get a jump every 33 minutes. Not ideal!

A friend of mine is attending CES right now, as he does almost every year for a long time. He tells me that he spoke with someone from the HDMI forum (this proceeds from an article link I sent him about HDMI 2.0), who mentioned that a new encryption key is on the way, to replace the one that got published on the 'net in late 2012, providing the basis for the CVID, View-HD, etc. black boxes. Bad news, if that is accurate, but not entirely unexpected. Is the consumer electronics industry really prepared to invalidate the ginormous installed base of existing equipment people already own, all in the name of kowtowing to Big Content ? Guess we're going to find out, soon enough.
They're also dreaming, if they think that 4K gear is going to have any significant market impact, in the reasonably near-term future. When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.
-
I doubt it. I understood that the one which leaked was the HDCP master key, which allows anyone to create their own source and sink keys.
Unless they replace the whole infrastructure, which would make any TV etc released to date incompatible with new players, I don't see how they can do this. I suspect they will go hard for 4K as a video standard, and put out a new digital protection schema with that which isn't backwards compatible.

Which are good capture devices to capture video and sound in upto 1080p from a Sky HD box?
I know Sky doesn't have 1080p, but I just want to future proof.

That's probably what's holding up the 4K disc format. They'll introduce a new cable and say it is necessary to deliver the highest quality -- when the real reason is the new encryption. Early adopters getting their 4K TVs now will be screwed. Just like early adopters of HDTVs were screwed by HDMI+HDCP.

Hello everybody,
I'm looking for an HDMI-splitter that
- can decode/strip HDCP 1.x
- pass through HD-audio like DTS-HD 5.1/LPCM 5.1/DSD 5.1 via HDMI
I have purchased a couple of different splitters at Ali. They do strip HDCP but convert multichannel audio signal into stereo.
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
P.S. If someone needs a 1x1 or 1x2 splitter with the desired function for video let me know as I'm going to sell them anyway.
-
If you want keep multichannel audio I do believe you need do it like this look at DVI-HDMI Converter.
What I don't know if they embed the audio sources in to HDMI outputLast edited by SHS; 12th Jan 2014 at 15:45.

The Cable Guy, if this is what you need and you are in the uk I have just purchased one of these complete with hdmi to dvi cable and uk adapter, this is now surplus to my requirements because a standard hdmi stripper is all I need, I don't need anything other than stereo/mono audio. Let me know if you are interested.
Cheers

SHS, NickR,
Thanks for your prompt replies!
As input and output are both HDMI, a DVI-HDMI converter doesn't seem to be a perfect solution...
I've tested the following converters:
1. White one
2. Silver one
3. Black one
All of them can decode HDCP but useless for me...
-
Do you have a capture device that can record those types of audio?
Both devices on the output side of the splitter have to support multichannel audio unless you're using a playback device that you can force to use a given output format. I think using a 2-channel TV, etc. might be your problem since one of the splitters you say you tried specifically mentions supporting DTS-HD and other formats.
