  1. Hey all

Am THRILLED to have found this thread - and just have one question - does the following splitter work with Hauppauge PVR2 as well? Can I hook it up to HDCP compliant TV and record in HD?

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089DVCT8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  2. Yes, the CVID BG 550 works with the HD PVR2. I tested them personally. It should work with all HDMI recorders.

Thanks Jagabo! Is there a link that helps demonstrate how to set it up?

source <----HDMI----> splitter <----HDMI----> capture device

If you want to monitor the signal on a TV use one of the other outputs of the splitter.

This one is the holy grail of HDCP strippers for me, since I consider a powered splitter to be a requirement in any HDMI capture setup anyway and I want the smallest one possible.
Looking to buy one of these and pair it with a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card. Has anyone used this configuration? I see someone was having issues but it appear to be with a different HDMI splitter.

    -- EDIT --

Although reading through the specs, perhaps the Shuttle is a better option, as it will also capture 5.1 over the HDMI which strangely the PCI-e card will not...

    Many Thanks

It works, and I wasn't able to get the shuttle to work with anything. Ended up with the Pci-E and use optical to go from my source to my sound card to capture 5.1.

    Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the tip. Without sending this Off Topic, could you tell me or point me in the direction of how you're set up to do your captures?

Do you capture both video and audio through the blackmagic software or something else?
Are you capturing everything into one file, or are you generating separate audio and video files?

    Many Thanks

I haven't been able to do it other than on Windows XP.

I use AmaRecTV to record the video (720p) and Dolbly Digital Recorder (DDR) to record a 6 channel PCM audio file (audio.ac3), then use mencoder to mux the audio and video file together (it's tricky to get a perfect audio/video sync like this but you can offset the audio with mencoder), then it'll play in perfect 5.1 in VLC player, etc.

My XP box exploded a while ago so I've just been recording 2 channel "stereo" on my Windows 7 box (can do it all in AmaRecTV, perfect a/v sync every time).

If you find out a good solution for recording 5.1 on Win 7 plz let me know

Thanks Jamie, I've just seen the Decklink Mini Recorder on the website - HDMI / SDI only, so drops the Analogue functionality but upgrades the 2ch HDMI to 8ch HDMI like the Shuttle but as a PCI-e card.

I might get the stripper now, and then have an ask on the BM stand at IBC in a few weeks time.

Here's the user manual for the VHD-1X2MN3D

I noticed the manual mentions HDCP support for that vhd-1x2mn3d. Don't all the ones which specifically mention HDCP support mean they don't strip it anymore? Getting really hard to find one of these things lately considering they keep updating them to a version which does not strip it anymore.

The vhd-1x2mn3d seems to be a popular choice but it's pretty old and well-known so I would expect the one on Amazon to have been updated to stop stripping HDCP by now, although there are random e-bay links as well.

    No.

None of the Blackmagic capture devices will capture a compressed 5.1 stream though.
The 8-channels you see in their shuttle specs mean 8 channels of uncompressed audio.
If you can set your source device to output uncompressed audio, the various channels will show in their software.

No way for us to know.

Try that big Contact Now button. I'm curious what they say.

  15. i have two of these splitters:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-WAY-HD-hub-switch-box-port-1x2-1080p-3D-HDMI-SPLITTER-For-...item43aeb1a681

They do not "strip" the hdcp from the input signal.

I have a "chinese" capture card which has hdcp built in and a teradek cube. When i connect the splitter with both devices i only have a picture on the capture device. On the teradek device the screen stays black...

Now i ordered this device. The seller is convinced it will remove hdcp. Let's hope so...

At least two posters here confirm that the "MINI HDMI2HDMI + Audio" does strip HDCP.

Correct. They say it strips the hdcp but they also say that there are still some flickering issues where the hdcp message pops up out of no-where and sound issues from the output side.

Also a brand called ViewHD is selling exactly the same device and some "upgraded" versions called. I cannot say if the newer versions from viewHD, VHD-H2HSA and VHD-H2HSAs are also capable to "strip" the hdcp signal. But the newer versions actually can output digital audio instead of analog, where the s version can even strip 5.1 dolby from the input signal.

ViewHD is also stating that the newer versions are capable to work with many other devices like Wii U and some settop boxes...

  18. Just received this device and i have to report that it does NOT strip HDCP

    How did you test?

  20. Connected the hdcp protected settopbox to input. To output 1 i connected my tv and output 2 the hdmi capture device (teradek cube). I have a picture on my tv but the screen stays black on the device. When i zap to a unprotected channel (hdcp unprotected) then i have a picture on both the tv en the device.

Yes, that sounds like it's not stripping HDCP.

The picture underneath the "INTERFACE" heading on that listing looks different than the photo at the top. Which is it?

What TV service is this that has its boxes HDCP-encrypt some channels and not others?

Where does it say that it did?

It just looks like a 1 in 4 out to me.

It's a major tv provider which encrypts sports channels with HDCP security. But normal channels are opening fine.

The seller just asked me to send the item back...Guess he also thinks that the device is "faulty" (not stipping like it should)

Quoting my question since you skipped past it. Does the unit match the picture at the top or the one further down the page?

Somewhere I have photos of the internals of my 1x4 that does strip. It would be nice to see whether the chips on yours are different.

  27. It looks like the first picture on ebay. These are pictures of the internals. From 2011?

This is what i found about the chip onboard of the splitter:

    http://www.epmi.com.tw/sayapro03.php?id=29

"Integrated HDCP decryption/encryption engines which are compliant with HDCP Rev 1.2

    specification"
If you look at the flow diagram then you can see that it just forwards the HDCP key...unfortunatly it doesnt seem to strip the encryption.

Thanks! Very interesting. So internally it is completely different even though it looks very similar on the outside. There is one notable difference that it took me a while to see: viewing it from the port side (if you will) the 1x4 splitter we've recommended has the DC 5V input on the right, while yours has it on the left. The image in the eBay listing shows it on the right, so I guess you could claim "not as described" right there...

Is there a daughter board up front on yours for the LEDs and push button?

You're right. I just opened mine up and it looks just like yours.
