    Hey all,


    Anyone know a way and how to convert a xvid or divx file to wmv, i know it souds stupid that way around but it is needed...

    I only have macosx and linux debian to work with files on..

    I looked at mencoder but i cant seam to find the command to the correct trick?

    If you don't mind spending money, on the Mac, you can use ffmpegx (there's a dedicated ffmpegx forum here on VideoHelp, which major (who maintains ffmpegx) moderates, as well as a Mac forum), which uses both ffmpeg and mencoder, I believe. There's also the Flip4Mac software, though I'm not sure what kind of Windows Media files you can create with it.

    ffmpegx cant rencode to wmv, i need something that can reencode from divx/xvid to wmv in linux is best for me..

    I'm not sure, but I assumed it should be able to, as both ffmpeg and mencoder have some support for WMV. major would be better able to answer the question than I, of course.

    You can use ffmpeg and mencoder in Linux (from the first post, it sounds like you're already using mencoder in Linux), but I'm not sure of any front-ends that would make the task easier.

    ffmpeg probably makes more sense since mencoder doesn't have its own wmv muxer. Means WMV 8 at best though.
