Im having problems joining 2 avi files using vdub .
Im getting the message about vbr codes and different audio streams sample rates . Im going to try running them through TMPEG to convert to mpeg then join them .
idont know if this will work but will try it until someone has time to help me.
Thanks.

Joining avi files often results in audio sync issues int he second half. As you have tmpgenc, encode each seperately. Use tmpgenc DVD author (there is a fully functioning 30 day trial) to author both sections to a single title. There may be a slight join in playback, but no worse than a layer break.
