Sony DRU-500ax will not recognize DVD+RW media

My burner has the 2.0H firmware. I even went vack to 2.0F with no luck. The drive will not recognize the DVD+RW media. Even the Sony disc that came with my burner will not see it. It did some time ago and I burned and erased it a few times, but today it wouldnt. I went out and bought some Memorex 4X DVD+RW and it does not see them either.

I have various brands of DVD-R (x2 and x4) and it saw them fine (I have no DVD-RW media to try)

Any one else have this problem??

Tried to burn an RW today, and my 500a will not recognize ANY rw media. That includes both +RW and -RW, Sony, TDK, HP, Princo.

I also downgraded to 2.0f with no effect.

I've had no problems with Sony 2.4x +RW in my DRU-500AX, original firmware.

upwards of 40+ burns on each of 3 discs...

On teh sony support site where you downloaded that FM there should be a link to a live chat with a tech support person who might have ideas.

I had a problem develop with my DRU-500a that it wouldn't write to DVD+/-RWs and started writing 2x to 4x DVD-R media. I don't know if this is the same as yours as mine did recoginize the RW media but stopped erasing them or burning to them. In my case it turned out to be a dirty lens. I was able to correct the problem and now I get 4x write speeds on the DVD-R media and I'm able to erase and write to DVD+/-RWs. See: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=213846&highlight=
