so far, i've noticed it in 2 movies (region 1): black mask 2 and XXX
the original DVD has forced captions that appear automatically when foreign language is spoken (jap in black mask 2 and russian in xxx)
however, using vobsub/vdub and flaskmpeg, i can't find any subtitle track that contains these forced subs
even when playing the original DVDs in winDVD, i right clicked and looked at the subtitles available and i don't see any forced subs either (with previous DVDs, there's usually a labeled forced captions track that's automatically checked, but w/ these 2 movies, the captions are DISABLED, yet forced captions still play)
anyone know where these forced captions are????
as of right now, the only way i can get these to show up is to manually edit the .idx file from closed captions (not forced) from vobsub so that only the forced subs show up..but this is getting tedious and i'm not sure i can get all the forced subs to show up correctly

I've tried backing up the R1 version of XXX to SVCD and have the same problem...where are the forced subs?
There are english and french subtitle streams but i can't find the forced subs.
Does anyone know where they are????

XXX has 32 "forced" subtitles embedded in the English subs stream. The way I see it:
1. Open Subrip 1.14,check: Action, save as BMP. Open the ifo DVD2SVCD made, the program will say "Closed Caption detected (1X)".
2. Go to Global Options, check "forced subtitles only"
3. Rip them and save the text file.
4. Compare these to the ones DVD2SVCD made, and delete all that you don't want. I think that this will work.
5. If you use selectable subs, run crash recovery. If perm, you have to start all over. -
another way to go if the forced subs aren't on a separate subtitle stream....(from doom9.org)
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/forcedsubs.htm
To do that open the .idx file that VobSub created when indexing the subtitles. You can open that file using a regular text editor, like Notepad.
Once opened look for the following entry:
# ON: displays only forced subtitles, OFF: shows everything
forced subs: OFF
Replace OFF on the 2nd line with ON, save the file again and you're all set. -
Or alternatively there is the easier option of opening Sub Rip 1.14
and selecting the 'Forced subtitles' option and it will rip them
that way.
