Now that AnyDVDHD is gone, I am trying to determine what to replace it with. My interests are ripping 4K UHD Blu-ray, 1080p Blu-ray, and DVD file structures directly to internal storage for playback on my laptop, as well as to ISOs for burning modified copies to play on region locked players. I know how to use MakeMKV. But the last time I used it, it was only able to backup Blu-ray file structures to internal storage, but not DVD file structures. Has that changed? Can it also backup to ISO? What are the differences between DVDfab HD Decryptor, DVDfab Passkey, and Xreveal?

Try this, xReveal. Its free but you need to find the key.cfg file to decrypt

Easy to find via various means

For DVDs, DVDshrink. I have not come across a DVD it cannot "back up" , despite it's age. It will give you the VIDEO_TS folder.

  4. You will need an optical drive that can read 4K UHD Blu-ray.
AnyDVD HD probably won't work on any of those but you can try.

MakeMKV does not write(burn) so you need to use a software like ImgBurn for writing.
I have never tried ImgBurn for a 4K UHD Blu-ray & I do not believe it is supported for this.
MakeMKV is also some behind for new movies. It usually gets there.
I have not checked if it does 4K UHD Blu-rays.

My disclaimer: I'm not plugging for DVDFab products. I would prefer to use another company.
I just do not know of one.

I have not tried this software but it is supposed to be what to use: DVDFab UHD Copy.
Also if the has Cinavia: DVDFab UHD Cinavia Removal.
If Cinavia removers have not improved then They do a poor job & you do not get the quality of the original audio tracks.

Or Passkey for Blu-ray & UHD. I do not know if this removes Cinavia.
I do not believe it removes Cinavia.

Xreveal I doubt that is can do 4K UHD Blu-ray as it depends on the keydb.cfg file.
That makes it only as good as the keydb.cfg you can get.
I do not know if this file even has 4K UHD Blu-rays in it.

Xreveal works with UHD discs and keydb.cfg definitely contains UHD keys.

  6. MakeMKV does not support ISO directly, but it can be achieved by backing up the original file structure of a Blu-ray/4K UHD and working with a third-party tool (e.g. ImgBurn).
DVDFab HD Decrypter can output MKV/MP4 files and generate ISOs, but it may face limitations with newer releases. Passkey, as a real-time decryption tool, supports direct extraction of ISOs or VIDEO_TS folders.

  7. DVDfab HD Decrypter is the free version of DVDFab, can only output DVDs to MKV/MP4 or ISO files. DVDfab Passkey is to decrypt on the fly and support ISO and folders output, and there are Passkey for DVD, Passkey for Blu-rays, Passkey all-in-one, etc.

For some reason, MakeMKV only backs up file structure of Blu-rays, yet only rips DVDs as ISOs. So I wound up buying Xreveal so I could play all discs on my laptop and burn modified copies of non-US discs so they could play on my Sony UBP-X800M2 and Panasonic DP-UB820P-K players. I even had to use IFOEdit to get non-US DVDs to play on some North American Sony players and my Panasonic DP-UB820P-K because besides the region, I had to change the video signal ID from Pal to NTSC. But I think I now have everything I need to pick up where AnyDVDHD left off before they disappeared. Thanks, guys.

No, use "Open Disk" mode to view all the movies on a DVD. You can then select which ones you want to extract and produce a single MKV of the movie. That's why it's called "MakeMKV".
