My trusty Panasonic DMR-ES10 would no longer turn on so I purchased another one.

All the connections are the same, I have a Panasonic NV-FJ600 & a USB Live-2

I have turned off NR in the settings but I can't figure out why I'm getting muffled sound as it's connected exactly the same.

Is there a sound setting I should changer or any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    I have attached a 10 second video

  2. Bypass the ES10 for audio. Directly connect the audio from the VCR to the USB-live2. You may have to adjust the delay (A/V sync) in post.

    Thank you
I tried that. At the rear of the ES10 left hand side which is (AV4 In) I have the yellow, white and red component cables running to my VCR yellow video and white audio.

At the rear of the ES10 right hand side (Out) I have the yellow, white & red component cables connected to my Hauppage USB Live-2.
I unplugged the red & white cables that run from the right hand side of the ES10 to the VCR & unplugged the red & white from the USB live & connected them to my VCR but that leaves 2 loose red & white cables & I have no sound.
I'm obviously doing something wrong if you could please explain it again
    Thank you

  4. Bypassing the ES10 for audio:
-Connect the RED+WHITE at the rear of the NV-FJ600 (=Audio OUT) to the RED+WHITE of the USB-Live2
    and
-Connect the YELLOW at the rear of the NV-FJ600 (=Video OUT) to the YELLOW on the front of the ES10 (Input)
    and
-Connect the YELLOW at the rear of the ES10 (output) to the YELLOW of the USB-Live2

Or for including the ES10 for audio (but you got the muffled sound as I understood):
-Connect the RED+WHITE+YELLOW at the rear of the NV-FJ600 to the RED+WHITE+YELLOW on the front of the ES10 (Input),
    and
-Connect the RED+WHITE+YELLOW at the rear of the ES10 (output) to the RED+WHITE+YELLOW of the USB-Live2

Note: I suggested to use the front sockets of the ES10 (IN 2) as an alternative to the inputs on the back in the hope that this may solve the sound problem)

    Excellent that worked thank you.
Will I only get mono sound or should I be getting stereo?
If so I can export the audio & edit it & reimport it

  6. WHITE and RED carry stereo, but your tape may be recorded mono only .....

    And just to add:
Its much better quality wise to use the S-video connection (using an S-Video cable) from the ES10 to the Live2 instead of the YELLOW. Then you can enable the Comb Filter in the ES10 which will eliminate - or significantly reduce - the typical composite (YELLOW) quality deficiencies like dotcrawl and rainbows. Highly recommended, especially for the USB-Live2!

Great. I hate to be a pain but can you tell me which S-Video cable to buy. My VCR does not have a S-Video connection but I'm getting another one next week a Panasonic NV-VP60 which has a S-Video connection.
Also where do you enable the comb filter in the settings?
    Thank you

In your current setup use it for connecting the ES10 (S-video OUT socket on the rear) to the USB-live2, instead of the YELLOW.

This S-video of the NV-VP60 is for DVD playback only. For tape playback the RED+WHITE+YELLOW are still to be used (same as your current VHS).
If you want S-video for tape playback you should go for a S-VHS VCR (preferably with TBC which may make the ES10 redundant) .
The VP60 won't have a benefit compared to your current model, I am afraid. Here a list with S-VHS models:

Thank you form that information, I will try & buy a cable & purchase one of those models.
Unfortunately here in Australia a good VCR is hard to find, most people sell as is & there are only about 3 people who sell decent refurbished models.
As for TBC again they are sold as is or they cost a small fortune from the US or UK. There is one person from the Netherlands also advertising & his cost an arm & a leg as well.
One again thank you very much for your help.
