Hi everyone, i have a bit of a problem.
I did a vcd with some music videos on and i put a background for the menu that i created with photos on it etc and wouuld like to see if i could extract the background and then convert it to bmp/jpeg format so i could use it again. I had it on my pc but i formatted and forgot to backup all of my documents.

    Thanks

  3. Most software DVD players also play VCDs and most of those programs can take snapshots of the screen. WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc. Demo versions are available.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

The background pic is stored in the Segment foleder as a .dat file. Load the .dat file into TMPGEn and under File -> Output file -> Sequence Bmp etc.. and save the file.

The only problem is it will have all your menus with the background picture.

When you do a Video Source Browse, set 'Files of type' to All files. You should see the .dat file listed in the CD segment folder. This works for TMPGEn v2.51.

You could also use VcdGear to extract a mpeg from a dat file. Under Extraction/Conversion choose dat->mpeg then load the dat file and click start. You will have a 1 frame mpeg that you can load into TMPGEn and change it to a bmp file as described above.

TMPGEnc cannot read MPG or DAT files straight from the CD - they need to be 'extracted' first so that they can read as a normal MPG file.

Use 'ISOBUSTER' (available on this site) and right-click on the 'DAT' files on the CD and select 'Extract Objects' to copy them on to hard drive, TMPGEnc should then be able to read them.

TMPGEnc will read a dat file off of a VCD if the default MPEG1 codec is the Microsoft MPEG
Viedo Decoder. If the decoder is anything else such as Ligos, it may be a black screen when viewed with WMP. Load the MPEG with WMP6.4 and right click Properties -> Advanced and you will see the video codec used. I had a problem with Ligos and by changing it to MPEG2 only it defaulted to the 'MPEG Video Decoder' for MPEG1 files. TMPGEnc would load VCD dat files with no problem.

BTW: Mpeg1 files played better with MS MPEG Video Decoder than Ligos. But then, it could be my system.
