  1. Hi

I want to archive a 760MB avi to CDROM - but - it's toooo big.

If it was an (S)VCD it'd fit cus of the mode 2 burning. But am I right in thinking this is not true for divx avis ?

Does this mean I need to re-encode the avi to make it smaller - i.e. using TMPGenc, like we do for (x)(s)vcds ?

    Cheers

  2. the only thing that i know how to do is to use virtual dub by splitting it up into 2 parts so that each part will fit on a cd. perhaps 600 mb and 160 mb.

if anyone knows other ways, let me know...

You appear to have 3 options..

    1) Split the file

    2) Use 99 minute media

    3) Use XCD drivers and risk the .avi going bad because of lack of error correction on the disk. ( Check doom9 for more into on xcd mode2 data disks ).

  4. Hi

    Thanks for the ideas

I don't like the idea of using 90/99 min CDs - so for me that's ou.
XCD is a very interesting idea - and I'm amazed I'd not read about if or heard about it before - it would be interesting to try.
Splitting the file is probably the right thing to do though - just logistics really - you've got to find two disks instead of one - sounds easy enough -but you know what it's like....

    Cheers
