Hi,
I have several divx files and I would like to author them (menus, chapters, ...) into a single disc but without reencoding. Tools in the DivX authoring section seem to encode every video file used. Is it possible to do what I want?
Bye.

Authoring typically implies the final output will be DVD. In which case the files must be reencoded to mpeg2 and is why all of the tools you have looked at want to enocde.
Google is your Friend -
Only Divx 6 supports menus, chapters. etc. Have you tried TMPGenc DVD Author? I've never used it, but it can produce Divx 6 menus, etc.

Or if you are using DivX Ultra and you want to keep your videos in DivX format, there are some limited features for menus and chapters. I don't know how that works, though. If the menus are part of the video file, it may have to re-encode in order to create them. I would think DivX Author would be the main tool to use for that. Of course you would need a DivX Ultra certified player to view the menus, etc.

Somebody needs to update the info on DivX Author at the Tools section here. It's now priced at $19.99 according to the divx.com website and NOT at the $40 the link in the Tools section claims.

I sent a note to the administrator for a update on the price change, which I am assuming is permanent.
EDIT: And it has been changed. -
Even the officially supported Divx Author appears to re-encode most of the time. Either that, or it does a lot of very slow demuxing/remuxing.
Read my blog here.

Thanks everybody for your answers.
I used to author DVDs from mpeg2 files with TMPGEnc DVD Author. It is a very nice program. If mpeg2 have DVD compatible formats then reencoding is not requested and DVD generation (or even modification) is quite fast. Besides video quality suffers no change.
These are the same reasons why I miss an equivalent solution for divx files. It is a nice way to put them in order
I'm starting to think than the best solution will come with a media center and a modern flat TV. Then, divx videos will be recorded in a disc with a web interface for easy navigation. Has anybody another suggestion?

Paco M. - You're not paying attention to what I am saying. Read my first post again. TMPGenc DVD Author CAN author Divx! I'm not talking about converting Divx to DVD format but it can author Divx in Divx 6 format with menus, etc. If your version doesn't do this, you need to upgrade.

DivXMediaBuilder does not do any encoding. it only does the authoring. not too many options, but it works.
i would suggest remuxing the files if they are .divx to .avi with virtualdub ( video-direct stream copy, audio-directstream copy) or with avidemux(video-copy,audio-cop, format avi) before using DivXMediaBuilder. i have had problems with it using .divx files directly. -
jman98: you are right, I need to upgrade my TMPGEnc DVD Author version, but I knew that it can author divx files. I've also read that it's very slow because it always reencodes. I'm not sure if this is true or false because I have not tested it yet.
If as mgh says 'DivxMediaBuilder does not do any encoding' then this program seems to be more suitable for me.
