My question was addressed to the PotPlayer developer as per this thread subject. Are you one of its developers? I looked through your other posts in several threads, and its obvious you are not.

Is it required to register FFmpeg.dll in the system after coping it to Module\FFmpeg folder, when running a portable PotPlayer after unpacking its installer? I tried to use it without registration for decoding MP4 footage, since its not strictly a "codec", but latest PotPlayer locked the system.

Another issue is, at ANY webcam stream preview without recording (like raw or MJPEG source), PotPlayer CPU load is 12%, while VirtualDub previews the same stream with near 0% CPU load. It looks like PotPlayer forces stream conversion to a different colorspace, while VirtualDub uses DirectShow SampleGrabber filter to split: decode & render to screen without conversion, and record to file, giving very low 5% CPU load at stream "copy to file" + preview, or near 0% CPU at preview only. Pls fix that for PotPlayer - it may not strictly be called a bug, but obvious lack of optimization. It looks like PP uses rawvideo decoder for stream preview, and unfortunately its not optimized for that.

Nothing claims anyone here is the dev. And no-one is. The opposite is claimed. That it's a generic forum for PP.
The first post also tells you about the official e-mail and forum. Try reading the first post.

If that's true, I better post it here. And also want to ask Havokdan to translate and post the same in PotPlayer Korean language forum, if possible.

  5. Up front: I am not an expert.

Noticed that everybody on Internet seems to be oh soooo happy about Potplayer, there seems to be nothing else but Potplayer.
When doing a search on Potplayer in this forum, there are many many hits, i.e. my guess there are a -lot- of issues/questions on
this player(?) when comparing -for instance- with KMPlayer.

Potplayer has a million settings. Being a non-expert ,3/4 of which I don't know what it is used for and what I am
supposed to set, if at all I should 'set' something.

So,as an simple end-user, I like a player that plays the major formats without hickups out of the box.
In a windowed size that I have set, i.e. not full screen, or off-screen.
I don't want to get into settings and spend a lot of time just to get a player going.

    Example: play a .mp4 and a VIDEO_TS
    a) Potplayer(*): I have spent an hour or so to try and find settings to get it play in a windowed sessions, i.e. not full screen. Potplayer keeps on playing full screen mode. I gave up. Searching on Internet, in this forum, etc. i.e. trying to find a fix for something I don't want.

    b) KMPlayer on the ohter hand, plays the video exactly how I would like, without hickups in the size I prefer.

    c) VSO player - plays the file with hickups - correctly in a windowed sessions

    d) MPC-HC: plays VIDEO_TS with hickups when scrolling to specific scenes, or crashes, but -correctly- in a windowed session

    e) VLC: starts off-screen, issue is known, but not dealt with.

    (*) PotPlayer (64-Bit) Version: 1.6.55390 Product Date: Jul 22 2015 14:05:32

Why is it that KMPlayer is abandoned so quickly?

Players only do what you set them to do. They're not mind readers. If you're too lazy to look at the relevant section of the options that's your problem. Just look through the settings find what you want set it and ignore the rest.

KMPlayer is the predecessor to Potplayer. When the the dev moved on it got crappy, crashy, so people moved on also. Recently it was taken down from a download site I use because it's full of adware.

  9. @Havokdan - thanks for getting back on this. pls note that I did already set Potplayer that way, but it continues to open full screen.
Even with.. those settings and whilst playing a .mp4 I resized it from full screen to a smaller size, then stopped playing, then exit.
After launch, it is back to full screen. To clear all settings I reset it to default and then tried, and tried and tried. Re-installed, tried again..
    etc.

  10. @mzso pls see my earlier reply. After trying so many times and searching on Internet, and and and ... one shouldn't be considered as 'lazy'. I know KMPlayer is the predecessor of Potplayer. BTW - what adware?

There is this button of 'no adware'

Does it include more than that then?

  11. Then you set something wrong. At both you should set custom and your desired resolution. It works for me flawlessly.

  13. hanks again!

Followed up your advice, many many thanks.

With your help, I think I have the correct settings now.

    1) File->Aspect Radio->Select Stretch
    2) File->Video->Resize->Select Resize Always
    3) File->Preferences->Playback->Select Custom under Default Window Size and (in my case, in this example) set to 1000x618
    4) File->Preferences->Startup->Select Custom size at Window size and (in my case, in this example) set to 1000x618

Glad that's sorted, and hopefully we now have a new happy PotPlayer user

If you'd like more skins, get 700 of them here http://vokol.deviantart.com/art/PotPlayer-Mini-Portable-428187430

There are lots of skins included that use the transparent overlay effect, in case you like that sort of thing.

    Hi.

PotPlayerSetup64-1.6.56209 does not want to run for me. Every time it installs correctly, then when I run it the program opens up and windows show a message that the program has a problem and will close - ok.

I have removed 32 bit and 64 bi versions and cleaned the registry but it still comes up with the error. In other words the program will not run in 64 bit mode. The 32 bit version works fine but i was hoping the 64 bit version would allow better file reading and timeline scrubbing.

I cleaned DAUM and software/PotPlayer] and pot player from the computer and registry.

    PS

I am loving pot player anyway but would like to have the timeline/navigation bar permanently on in the full screen view. There seems to be no short cut key or option to enable this.

Also there seems no real shortcut list of keyboard shortcuts available.

  17. @minsik If this one http://vokol.deviantart.com/art/PotPlayer-Mini-Portable-428187430 doesn't run, your problem is probably related to Windows 10.

"i was hoping the 64 bit version would allow better file reading and timeline scrubbing" That's not gonna happen. Most problems people have reported seem to be 64-bit related, and nowhere have I ever read that 64-bit outperforms the 32-bit version.

You can assign any key to do anything you like.

This pack http://www15.zippyshare.com/v/ccTn3Ywk/file.html has skins that always stay on top in Direct 3D9 mode, look for PreMod Beta and Zoon ending with .2 and .3, an easier workaround is to leave the mousepointer over the bottom bar, if you have that option enabled then the bar will be visible as long as the mousepointer stays put.

Many thanks for the direction guidance. I will gave the portable a test and see how it performs. I appreciate the info re the mouse bar. I had allready been doing that as a stop gap measure until i figured the option out but drew a blank on all attempts. Also now know to use scroll lock to get a permanent display of time and filename in top lhs corner.

    thanks again.

  19. Hi!

When I leave PP in paused state for a while and the screensaver is enabled, when I come back to use it the image freezes and I get high cpu usage. I have to stop and restart playback. It's been going on for several months now.

Does anyone else have this annoying issue?

+Added operating selection in showing UI when dropping file to play

Anyone know where this is? I can't find it. Mainly I dont like the Open with 2nd subtitle box that takes over half the image when I'm drag-dropping subtitle files in.

  25. One bug that I have found is when you are using two monitors and you go back to one while you have an instance of potplayer running the window from "Download subtitles from OSDb" gets lost. Im sure it opens somewhere off screen but there is no way of bringing it to the front. You have to reset your settings to get it back. Hope to get a fix.

  27. I think that feature wise, PotPlayer is by far the best software player in existence. However, in real life I find myself using the "Open with" option in the context menu (PotPlayer being the default player for all multimedia files) to choose MPC-BE in stead. The reason is the horrific load time for any multimedia file when double clicked in Windows Explorer, while PotPlayer is the default player. It is bad regardless of the version of Windows, 7,8,10, or if I'm on a powerful desktop, a laptop, a Windows tablet or a netbook.

I have a 4 TB external USB 3.0 connected to the USB 3.0 port on the router. The router uses a Linux Samba server to make the HDD available on the network. Using the DVD Player from Kodi (which is a Linux player) the video and audio files stored on this network resource open almost instantaneously (Linux to Linux). When double clicking from Windows Explorer on the same video files, it takes 3 to 5 times longer to load, using any software player. That's probably the overhead of Windows communicating with Linux. However, PotPlayer takes 10 to 50 times longer to load any file from that network resource.

What is curious (and gives me hope) is that that when I use the Next or Previous buttons in PotPlayer (while a video from the network resource is already open), the new file loads, not instantaneously, but still very fast.

I've Googled many times, including this forum, to find a solution for this problem (since I love PotPlayer), but I was unsuccessful. The only suggestions that popped up were to upgrade the graphics drivers, which doesn't help. PotPlayer is annoyingly slow, compared to MPC-BE and WMP, when loading files stored locally, though sensibly faster than from network locations.

If anybody knows a solution to make PotPlayer load files faster from Windows Explorer, I will greatly appreciate the help.

  28. Reading through this thread I discovered that even the reputable forum Super Moderator Baldrick had the same problem, with PotPlayer being slow loading files. He states he wasn't able to find a solution. Which makes me wonder, if the developer is aware that his wonderful, sophisticated player becomes just a piece of garbage, not worth wasting hard disk space, because of this bug. I understand he does not speak English, but still, there should be some way to make him aware of this major PotPlayer shortcoming.

  29. I use PotPlayer x32 on Win7 Pro x64, usually the newest betas. PotPlayer starts and loads files very fast. It takes a few moments longer when my hard drive "falls asleep", if I don't use it for a while. My system and programs are on separate SSD.

I don't know, if you've read them, but I'll copy/paste a few of my comments/posts. Maybe they can help (sorry if I repeat myself).

    1. "What I learned from a website of PotPlayer's Polish translator is:
(Google translator with a few corrections) It is associated with granting the certificate for PotPlayer by VeriSign. Therefore, at specified intervals CRL is checked online via Windows CryptoAPI.
    CRL (Certificate Revocation List): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revocation_list
Without an Internet connection, PotPlayer will wait for a response from the Akamai network (CDN). So, do not reject calls from Akamai (try to change your firewall settings). I'm not sure if it's only reason that you have to wait those few / several seconds to turn on.
    Certificate confirmation and expiration status:.
Right-click on PotPlayer.dll (.exe) file -> Properties -> Digital Signatures tab -> click Details -> click View certificate -> Details tab -> Extended error information
PotPlayer has now increased protection against adverse effects. Because of growing popularity of PotPlayer it becomes a victim of hacking and some antiviruses notify that its files are suspicious/infected.
    Original link: http://potplayer.pl/viewtopic.php?p=5263#p5263
A solutions proposed by one user (I'm not sure how it might influence Windows security in general) is:
Disabling CRL checking on Windows level proved to solve the problem of certificates:
Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> click Security -> uncheck Check for publisher's certificate revocation.
    * please do this only after installing and running PotPlayer - Windows must at least once download/check certificate.
    Now PP loads immediately.
    Original link: http://potplayer.pl/viewtopic.php?f=17&p=5417&sid=91b7485c5c6bb3e87461963966943ec5#p5417 "

It may help, if you turn off your firewall during PotPlayer installation and the first start of the program.

    2. "Or you can try to do a clean install: uninstall PotPlayer, remove all folders from Program Files and Users - [Your profile] - AppData - Roaming - PotPlayerMini (+wherever else you'll find its files and folders). Just in case you can backup those folders somewhere else and Export Current Presets from Preferences window (be aware it will copy all foregoing errors). When doing a clean install you will need to set all the prefs anew."
