I think this might be helpful to some people. I had a subtitle problem that I managed to fix by adjusting a setting. I noticed that my subtitles were flashing when I selected the best video renderers like Madshi or Overlay Mixer, but they worked fine on auto, which used EVR by default.
I fixed this problem by changing a setting in the subtitle menu under "subtitle settings". I switched the "subtitle output" to "display on video (TV-OUT)"
It works fine now

Well I wouldnt actually recommend using Overlay mixer, its pretty old and was an "evolution step" introduced to add close captioned subs for DVD-playback
(Released with DirectX version 6)
Here is a nice summ-up from casimir666 @doom9, NOTE: ITS FROM 2008/02, BEFORE MadVR
Which is nowadays agreed to be the best video renderer, quality wise, also lot of options to toggle with
Next best alternative is EVR-Custom nowadays)
All renderers came out with different release of Windows or DirectX :
- Video renderer : it's the oldest one (release in 1996) and it use Gdi to display video. Unless you like blury image i didn't recommend it
- Overlay mixer : release with DX6, it was design for DVD playback because it added the possibility of close caption. Video is displayed using DirectDraw. This renderer also support hardware acceleration (DXVA)
- VMR7 : display the video using DirectX 7. In windowed mode all rendering in done by Microsoft filter, in renderless mode "Media Player Classic" receive the uncompressed video, add the subtitle, and then display the image. That's the reason why only renderless support internal close captionning.
- VMR9 : use DirectX9 to display video, same difference for windowed and renderless
- EVR : newest renderer arrived with Windows Vista, it still using DirectX9 (no no it didn't use DX10 as some poeple think). The "EVR Custom" mode is the equivalent of the renderless for VMR.

A brief microsoft sum-up:
Choosing the Right Video Renderer
Essential, too:
"Which renderer to use depends largely on which versions of Windows you need to support."
Just to clarify a bit on that whole renderer thing.
Good hint you mentioned this switchable sub-display option, essential one and good it works allright for you nowLast edited by tuco76; 12th Jan 2015 at 02:01.

I doubt that it's the renders' or potplayer's fault. I've always used that option for output. Plus adding it to the video has limitations like the impossibility to show subtitles under the video.
It feels like it might be a gpu driver issue. Did you try changing driver versions? -
I assumed it was about pgs / vob subs, as its allright now with this setting. Not much difference for those, theyre fixed/limited anyway.
In case you use srt mainly, switching that setting is no good, as mzso suggested you cant adjust size/spacing etc anymore -> loose all of that format benefits.
In case you didnt change GPU driver or setting, you switched any MadVR settings? Prob. since MadVR update maybe? -

This is not happening to me. I have both x64 and x32 version installed on windows 8.1. Try x32 version.
@Baldrick
Potplayer does not interfere with system codecs as it has its own filtergraph builder for playback just like KMPlayer as long as the setup of potplayer is not broken or built-in decoders are not disabled.Last edited by sheppaul; 21st Mar 2015 at 04:44.

Where can I download the English version of this Potplayer 64-bit. The links given on videohelp are installing korean version. I used to download English version on dvbsupport.net. But this website is not getting updated nowadays. I tried this link https://potplayer.daum.net/. Even this is also installing Korean version. Please give me a link where I can download a English version.

Thats interesting, apart from MadVR EVR-Custom Presenter is actually way to go. But as you described, it's obviously a bug with EVR then in deed.
First place I would've thought the cause might be sth. as described in earlier comments:

Executing potplayermini.exe version 1.6.51728 Beta took more than 5 second to start. Stable version opened instantly.Post #184 by AllisOne
@cicak: I've noticed the same with a few last betas. Thanks to Comodo Firewall warning I suspect the culprit might be PotPlayer's desire to connect to external IP: 23.43.75.27 (Akamai Technologies European from Holland). It's a new "feature" apart from a few "old" IPs that PotPlayer wants to talk to even if 'Auto check for updates' is set to Never. The old ones don't seem to affect PotPlayer that way. -

Pretty strange. I'm always using EVR C/P but never have been such delay.

BTW, Do you have a same delay with EVR C/P or EVR?
As for trying to connection to specific IP address, it may be for running count calculations. I don't really care about it. Prolly one of you can check the sending packets. I don't think they're collecting any critical information from the users.Last edited by sheppaul; 11th Apr 2015 at 05:13.

Just to clarify, the actual issue is about the *first* PP start up for each windows session *only*. Same here, also the latest beta starts with a 7-8 sec. delay, again.
So if you do not have a specific playback problem, there is no reason to use external filters like LAV as both will give you logically same output results.
For playing incomplete (or damaged) mkv files, I noticed built in works clearly better than LAV.

I wish. The built in VP9 decoder is horribly slow. Even worse there's no option to disable it. (outside removing ffcodec.dll, which has side effects.)
I've had issues with multiple other internal decoders that's impossible to disable...
Also using built in codecs automatically enables the potplayer's internal quality murdering processing filter, which does color space conversion just for kicks. -
I understand you have some issues with the player. Fortunately, there are many alternatives.

To all of you having slow startup issues, when updating make sure you check the localization option. You need the latest language file. New Potplayer+old language file= big no-no. To make sure you get the latest one when updating you could also remove the old one beforehand. That being said, many language files are very outdated so if you use anything else than English you're gonna have a bad time. Oh and I believe that if something is missing in your language file, it automatically uses the stuff found in the English file. So don't remove the English.ini from your program files.

Doesn't selecting "RGB32" output and "Direct Conversion" help on that (anymore)? Using Built in overrides these settings or..!?
Whats that localization option, you're referring to the drop down language menu when installing or sth. else ?
I always select (and use) English overall... -

It may, provided you find it, and enable high quality conversion, and the proper matrix is used for conversion, and happens to not misbehave. It was only added after my complaints, but it's just a workaround in my opinion. You don't want it enabled with pointless conversions when madVR does it better and more reliably.
Plus it's ridiculous that when you have something disabled it's only actually disabled when it chooses to.
Why the dev thinks it's okay to use internal condecs for a bunch of formats than can't be enabled is beyond me. Particularly that these are the ones that don't get any attention are often buggy. -
Did anyone try the new "Added the ability to set the maximum volume to 200%" feature.
Is it just added to the volume? I don't like that. I'd prefer amplification separately like in the old KMP days.
It's rather frustrating now that I moved to 64 bit and betas only come for 32bit potplayer. They also store their settings in different places so it sucks to just try out, I'd have to move settings in the registry... -
Hi
I recently wrote the developer with the following concern:
Hi
Since I started finding Audio Video Sync Issues a couple of years ago, things have improved tremendously. Thank you for your diligence in correcting the bugs. I have another file listed below that looses lip sync. I have tested this file on the latest version of both VLC and Pot.p. On VLC it plays flawlessly while on Potpl it looses the sync very quickly. To reproduce properly you may have to apply what I call the “stress test”. For about 5 minutes play the video file at 2,5 times normal speed. If there are any problems in the file or Potp software it will show up very quickly. With this video file below it is not the file as VLC has no issue. If I can be of any further assistance do let me know.
Thanx

I'm making the posting public because I don't believe this issue is isolated or close to being solved. The response from the developer was that he couldn’t duplicate the problem and advised me to reinitialize my settings which I did without results.
Before proceeding some formalities. I’m running win32 XP SP3 on a peppy 4 core system which didn’t break a sweat during the above stress test averaging 10 – 15% CPU usage.
On reinitializing my settings I experienced another issue - loosing 10 custom made equalizer settings. Before you scream backup I tried a number of times the export presets but it never worked. Frankly if it was saving the file I never found out where. Anyway does anyone know how to recover the settings without fiddling with the registry.
I just found out an hour ago that I could save my settings to an ini file – too late for this round.
Any thoughts
Thanx -

Does anyone use beta versions?
What is this scene explorer I see in the changelog supposed to be? -

Any way to enter FFmpeg commandline options in PotPlayer, when selecting a codec for a certain file playback, or webcam source stream, which can't be directly identified and captured by PotPlayer, like very popular Logitech C920 webcam H264 & AAC stream?
For example, to capture that webcam stream in FFmpeg, I need to enter:
ffmpeg -s 1920x1080 -rtbufsize 100MB -f dshow -vcodec h264 -acodec aac -i video="Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920":audio="Microphone (HD Pro Webcam C920)" -copyinkf -c copy K:\Video\C920_Recording.mp4Last edited by zamar27; 28th Jun 2015 at 06:48.
