    Hi there,

I have a 16GB memory stick and i couldnt copy a file over 5 GB to it because of FAT's size limitations or something...
I have converted now to NTFS.
I was just wondering if doing this will cause any problems or is it a good thing to do?
I did it because i know NTFS is better at handling larger file sizes.
I should really have asked here first though! Doh!

    Thanks guys.

BluRay players usually do support NTFS devices.

FAT32 has a file size (in WinXP) limit of 4GB.

The problem with NTFS in a flash drive is that it has to be "safely removed" to insure that any files copied over to the drive actually make it to the drive. With a FAT or FAT32 drive, you can just copy the file, then "yank the flash drive out".

Because of this, I prefer to stay with flash drives that I can format with a FAT file system.

That filesize limit is not OS-dependant.

True... it's not the file size that is OS dependent, it is the ability to format a VOLUME with a size greater than 32GB in WinXP. Funny, but Win98 and WinME can.

    Another MS quirk.
