Read through all of the kopmjj and mathmax threads. I think they ended up writing their own code for some of the filtering.

Of course he had his own scripts. There is no one script that fixes everything in every video.
-
I don't think kopmjj used a custom script on that one. There are two different concerts. One with halos issue and one with time base errors. Both issues need custom scripts...
However I think MrJacobAngle is not speaking of these two issues but about a filter that leaves the video smooth and sharp at the same time..
I don't know what kopmjj used, but the result is really niceEspecially the background which is amazing. Maybe some kind of temporal smoother in after effect??

Indeed Mathmax, somehow it's like you can read my mind
If anyone has a good, smoother, and also something that might sharpen the details in the video as well. Please share it with me. -
Neat Video. http://www.neatvideo.com/examples.html
It looks like he also did some deinterlacing (blend) and deshaking. -
Did you try PMing kopmjj ? What did he say he used?
In the youtube video , the deinterlacing and slightly crushing the black level takes care of lot of the noise already. Also looks like he cropped the ratty edges and stabilized as jagabo said
Can you post a video sample ? -
I tried with Neat Video, but it doesn't give me that smoothness that i am looking for :/
If anyone know how to apply a good smoother, and something that might sharpen the video as well, please try and download these 2 videos, and see if you can help me out.

It's very hard to really explain it, I guess the best thing would be if you download the 2 videos, then you can compare them.
Kopmjj's version is just more smooth, damn it. I can't explain it x)

NeatVideo.
You also need chroma noise reduction.
I'm not downloading anything from megaupload, it's a pain in the ass to wait, and then the download is slow.
Put it somewhere that doesn't inconvenience me.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

First adjust the levels and colors then use AssumeTFF(), TempGaussMC_beta1mod(), SelectEven() and Blur(0,1.0). Follow that with Neat Video. There may also be an undot or other DCT ringing filter in there.

Just a little side note, I do not have Neat Video in Vdub, But I do have in Sony Vegas, is that gonna change anything?.
-
Another question, do you think that this MCTemporalDenoise could help it the noise?
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=139766 -
I doubt that will do any better than Neat Video on that video.

I don't think noise reduction is the issue you're concerned with. Neat video can easily get rid of static type noise. Even at only 25 percent it's removed nearly all the noise:
I think you want to reduce the jitter from the lack of a time base corrector in the original cap. The TMGC script I gave earlier comes very close to kopmjj's video. If you leave out the Blur() it will be even sharper.Last edited by jagabo; 25th Jul 2010 at 09:59.

I was just playing with these samples and I agree with jagabo, the denoising isn't the problem, it's the residual jitter and "wavy lines" in the background . It's difficult to see in a single frame, but when playing or looking at consecutive frames, it acts as a type of noise that isn't filtered by any conventional noise filters.
If you look at kopmjj's sample around frames 62-120 , look at MJ's left face, the line is perfectly straight. When using various deinterlacers, denoisers, the line "undulates" because of the background jitter . I'm curious to know what he used to get rid of the background jitter?
There is evidence that he quite heavily denoised, then re-added artificial grain later, so it doesn't look so "plasticky" -
TGMC followed by a Blur(0,1.0) comes pretty close to what kopmjj did. I think he used an old deinterlacer that blended motion areas (you can see the double exposures in the shots with more motion). TGMC, Blur, Deen:

That's closer jagabo, but do you agree there's still the "wavy line" effect in the same frame range ~ 62-120 , looking at MJ's left face and his palm held out. Kopmjj did something to correct that . Maybe he had access to original tape and TBC ?Software methods suck for that, short of doing individual frame repairs.
To make faces "browner" , I think he channel mixed or adjusted green/blue . For example, the "white" colors like shirts in his sample aren't so "white" . But I don't know what color MJ was supposed to be at this point in time?

If you do a straight blend deinterlace you'll end up with just as smooth edges. He also did some AGC and probably some non-linear RGB adjustments. In any case MrJacobAngle can do his own tweaking from here on out.

Quick note, kopmjj do not or did not have the master tape, or the tape where this footage comes from. -
He didn't have access to a TBC, that's pretty clear. There is still a lot of jitter, just not at the smallest scales (because of the blend deinterlace).

I also i have this problem with the the black levels, I'm kinda new to use VirtualDub and AviSynth, I've always used Vegas Pro, so that's why I might have many stupid questions, hope you guys don't mind helping

What do I need to do, to also darken the missing part on right side? -
Are you talking about that white fringe glow?
One way to do it is to use masks and layers. I think he ended up rotoscoping some things like the halo edges in after effects (but I think that was a different source video, a lot worse than this one) .
You're basically applying filters selectively to specific areas , and animating those masks. It's harder to do in vegas alone, because the tools aren't as sophisticated -
I tried VideoFred's script for restoring 8mm film, and.. i kind of like it
I did color corection as jagabo's example
Code:ColorYUV(gain_y=60, gamma_y=-50, off_y=-55, cont_u=400, cont_v=400, autowhite=true) Tweak(hue=-30) ChromaShift(c=-4) #shift colors left by 4 pixels
p.s. Jagabo, what's the highest "noise profile quality" you have managed to achieve in NeatVideo ???
I have max 79%, using that profile its doing good job.
