your bios lists no ide master hard drive only a slave? how many drives are there? first thing i would do is check/replace the ide cable and power connections.

  4. You should not get the "F9" message unless the software was installed. However, if the software WAS installed, pressing F9 would launch the program. Since you get the message, but no software, it was either only partially installed or the install failed in some way. Or the HD has just recently become damaged or defective.

This software inserts itself into the OS boot process. BAD, bad, bad, avoid any prog that does this like the plague.

Fixing this may well involve deleting all partitions, re-formatting, and re-installing all software. EXCEPT Xpress recovery.

This is similar to the old Gateway software whose name escapes me ATM. The various screwups and problems this crap causes is very fresh on my mind, however.

You do not mention if you installed the software 2 weeks ago, or if the F9 message has always been present. Absolutely no way in hell this occurred spontaneously without one of the above.

Also, if possible get the optical and hard drives on different channels. Won't solve this problem but the HD will probably run faster. Unless the optical was just added 2 weeks ago?

I used to get that when I forgot and left the Gigabyte MB disc in the DVD drive. If not, it seems to be running something that's linking to the MB/recovery disc. Maybe it's trying to boot from the DVD drive as it's set as master? Check your BIOS settings to make sure your Boot HDD is set as your boot device and set all the first and next boot options to HDD, none to DVD/CD.

I did.I changed all 3 of them to HD.I have a feeling it's a BIOS issue, and that is up to date

The BIOS flasher didn't change your boot order? If the mobo thinks the DVD drive is the boot drive, it may or may not seek out the hard disc next - unless it's listed in the boot order.

You may have to use a live CD. If you can boot into a ubuntu live CD, there's other things going wrong.

As another source of info, check out the Gigabyte forum at Tweaktown:
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/

I found them to be very knowledgeable & helpful (even if, ultimately, we couldn't find a solution to my particular problem).

    Good luck.
