Hey guys i have been having trouble putting my .avi format movies onto my 4.7GB 16x DVD-R's.

My friends has told me that he has Nero, and has been able to drag the movie file into Nero, and burn it to the disc without a problem. He said that Nero does everything for you, converting to AC3 audio, adding chapters, etc.

    Is this correct?

Nero is garbage for encoding movies. Use convertxtodvd or favc if you need a simple solution.

Nero is an "okay" burning program but I would not use it for anything else. If you are looking for a one click style program that offers great quality you should look into the freeware favc. It will convert your avi to ready to burn dvd video_ts folder. When done you can burn that folder with Nero if you really want to... but I would suggest imgburn.

If it weren't for the wave editor, I likely wouldn't even install Nero on my machine. I was an early user, as Nero was the least expensive means of burning a few years back. At least it's not as prone to crashes now as then.

As a former, non-enlightened, frustrated Nero user, definitely what Freebird said above.

Forums on Nero indicates that various versions of this software work very well for some but not at all for others (for unknown reasons). I used the trial version of Nero 8 and it works like a charm. However, I had Nero 6 previously and it crashed all the times (with the dreaded blue screen!) and I had to uninstall that version.

  7. You will continue to have difficulty until you gain a basic understanding of what the hell it is you are trying to do.

If your and your friend's ability to RTFM are about equal, Nero may very well churn out the level of crap that you are used to.

For those with more brains than God gave a walnut, it is unacceptable.

READ, you lazy dumbass, READ. The answers are all here, just look for them.

Since you are obviously completely clueless, here's a clue. There is a reason there is a SEARCH function.

That should be fine. We need input like that. Our discussion sometimes gets too serious/boring! I am falling sleep on the keyboard.
