  1. I just got an SVCD flick that has director commentary as an extra...but when i extracted the mpeg from the bin (so i can mux it to an MPEG-1 to trick my dvd player) the movie plays back with both audio tracks at the same time. Is there a way i can either keep both tracks and pick between them or turn off the commentary track? Thanks.

If you remux it to MPEG-1, you will end with a XVCD, that does not support multiple audio. Either delete one audio track or stay with SVCD.

  4. Your DVD player may let you select only left or right audio channel when you play the video. That's how VCD's sometimes do multiple audio.

I have a Pioneer DVD player and when I click the audio select button on the remote, it will switch from stereo to left/right only.

You have a SVCD with 2 audio tracks. Demultiplex with TMPG > file > MPEG tools > demultiplex.
Then multiplex video and 1 audio track.
