I noticed a few DiVX video files I downloaded were a bit jumpy. However most are not. Is there a way to correct this ?
I usually convert the DiVX files to DVD Mpeg2 compliant files via Tmpgenc and then author to a DVD with TmpencAuthor and Nero.
These files are jumpy as DiVX files and also (of course) jumpy when converted to Mpeg2.
Thanks

The 'jumpiness' probably comes from corruption in the file. You can usually scan for bad frames and cut them out with Virtualdub. There are a few DIVX repair programs that can occasionally help also. (In 'Tools' <<<)
Some downloaded DIVX files are encoded by real idiots with old software and no idea of what they are doing. You can clean them up, but it takes a bit of work. -
I'm using DiVX 5...
However playing the file in VirtualDub it did not jump as it did in the DiVX player, Winamp or Windows media player. So I was able to resolve the issue by frameserving the DiVX file to Tmpgenc 2.51. As I wanted to convert the files to DVD....
Now the file plays fine on all my DVD stand alone players... -
this also happens if the interlace field order is read wrong in the header.. you can fix this with a 4c changer found in the tools section

The reason for this is VirtualDub uses the actual REAL codec to decode the video unlike WMP (bag o' shite) or WinAmp which use Direct Show 'FILTERS'. Forget those 'media players' and try something like VLC/ Videolan, MPC or Zoomplayer (and install FFDshow if you haven't already) for playing video files...in fact get them all....and DONT EVER EVER POST EVER AGAIN SAYING YOU USE WMP....EVER.Originally Posted by kenmo
