  1. I have no problem transfering a 95 min. VHS tape to my hard drive processing it through my Canon ZR65MC, through a fire wire, to my 80 gig hard drive. Since I made no adjustments to the quality of transfer in the capture, I cannot burn more than 60 min. on a DVD disc and that is all I am supposed to get, per Sony. I am sure there is a way, using MyDVD Sony software, to downgrade the quality of the capture to permit all 95 min. on one DVD, but I can't figure out how. Can anybody offer any suggestions? a couple of questions -

    - what authoring software are you using?
    - what burning software are you using?
    - what format are the captured videos in? (avi, mpg, ??)

I've got a 500AX, and I have no problem getting 2 hour films on a dvd... but these are dvds I've ripped and backed up.

Stuff that I've captured, I notice that it's about 70 min = 4.2Gb, capturing direct to dvd-mpeg with a AVER DVD EZmaker card & NeoDVD capture software (set to highest quality).

  3. Sony burner doesn't abythink to do with that limit. It is authoring software and setup problem. MyDVD is famous by using PCM sound instead of MPEG. What do you use for capture ? Do you have another authoring tool ?

  4. Thank you very much for your interest in helping me with my problem. I am very new at this and therefore I am rather limited with my response since so many of the terms used these days are new to me. I have just been using the software provided by Sony called "My DVD" with this software I captured my 95 min VHS tape directly to my hard drive. The on line instructions indicated that I could capture only 60 min in the MPG or MPEG2 format if I made no adjustments to the capture mode. The instructions also stated that I could adjust the capture to a "better" mode instead of "best" mode and get up to 120 min per DVD disc, but no where in the instructions did it tell me how to make the adjustment. Regarding authoring, I was just transfering raw VHS tape with no editing. I hope I answered your questions. Thanks for your help and I look forward to receiving a solution. Jack Carter ps.....I have available Adobe 6.5 but this software is way over my "head".

  5. You may want to try other software such as Dazzle DVD complete or Ulead Video Studio 7. They have trial versions. Both these programs allow mpeg audio. For encoding to mpeg-2, I use TMPGenc (instead of the encoder that comes with the programs stated above).

When using MYDVD to change from best to better mode go to the following.
Once your video is loaded and menus are made and you are ready to build the DVD click on Build and there you will see three options. The bottom two are for creating the file and either burning directly to DVD or saving to a folder. The top one says Video ?(at work, don't have the program in front of me). Click on this one and it allows you to set the bit rate for the movie. It also shows how big the DVD will be at the top. If it is red the file is too big, change the bit rate and click the button to check the size again, keep doing that until the display turns green.

  7. What you need to do having already captured the video is process it with a higher compression ratio.

Having saud that, the way to get more on a DVD with Sonic MyDVD is to capture within the Sonic program. Under capture near the bottom of the screen are capture options that let you select Good Better or Best quality captures. Doing that will let you get more time on a DVD.

Doing that might be easiest, If you do that then you may want to set auto chapters so you can jump arouind easier on the DVD.

But if you want to have chapters on the DVD that you setup the locations of, Then go to the Ulead web site, I recall it as www.ulead.com, Download the 30 day trial of their Movie Factory 2 software. It'll give you better control. My Sonyt came with MyDVD too, But being able to put chapters where needed and more functions have led me to switch to the DVD MF2, Do what I'm doing, use the 30 day trial until it expires and then buy, use your money until then.

    Good Luck
