  1. First off let me say this a great site and thanks.....I've used it alot to solve my problems....
this has probably been asked before......but I didn't find any problems like this when I searched the data files......
I down load movies from the net,, and recently bought this computer...hp 2.66gh windows home xp.....
I can not get some of the files to open with this computer....I've down load all the divx codes(3.11,4,5.02 and the nimo code pack) and also reset the priority from -2 to 2 on the direct show multimedia in tmpg(same thing here)...........

they down load alright and when I try to open them I usually get a black screen or a black screen with green in it......

this only seems to happen with the divx code 5 movies.....

can anybody tell me what I have forgotten to do or what I'm doing wrong.......

    Thanks for any help...............

  2. Maybe you should try installing the Xvid Codec. Some AVIs are compressed with it, and if you don't have it you usually get a green picture.

  3. i dont know if this is the solution to your problem, but i had troubles when i first installed divx5 on my system. it stopped playing divx3 files properly.
i found the following in a thread at doom9:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a fix to the divx3fix.reg originally posted to the doom9.org forum.
It allowed you to install divx 5 and continue playing divx 3.11 with the original codec. You can check this with the sample divx 4.12 video, since the divx 5 codec also has the glitch.

The problem was that with the fix, AntiFreeze stopped working, so this new fix changes the priority of 80 to 85 in both the divx 3.11 and AntiFreeze registry. Also works in Win98 now, as well as Win2k and WinXP.

Make sure divx 3.11, divx 5, and AntiFreeze (DivxAF) is installed, before doubleclicking on the .reg files.

  6. Try uninstalling the Nimo Codec pack...and just put on the DivX and Xvid codecs

    http://www.divx.com/divx/

    and the Xvid codec

    http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml The first link

These are the only 2 codecs I have on my computer and can play every downloaded movie I have. They are really the only 2 you mostly need. But get rid of the Nimo pack, it caused problems for me and as I have read many others too.

    as to what is RGB

    http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/pdfs/dvprimer.pdf

and I am assuming the DX50 = DivX version 5.0

If you still have problems https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=138684 the link that says KingJohns Guide to Codecs V2 though the link is dead at the moment.
