I would like to convert the rmvb files to other format so that i can burn to disc and watch with my dvd player.

I have WinAVI and Total Video Converter and even Xilisoft softwares in my PC.

    But then...don't know why.
I tried many times with all softwares...everytime it will say cannot open file etc...i can watch the rmvb files normally on windows media player with real alternative installed and also i can use vxo converter and burn to dvd. but that takes up too much space and i want to convert to divx instead.

Can someone help me on this problem?

I use a script like this for AVISynth and open the RMVB in VirtualDub Mod, then convert to AVI type formats.

DirectShowSource("C:\LOTR.RM", fps=29.97, convertfps=true) Just change the name to your file.

More info here: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic289872.html Works with some other formats also.

If you still can't open it, it's likely something is wrong with the file.

i had to change it to .rmvb instead of .rm before it could work. am converting now but it seems slow. will wait and see how..

    thanks for your tip

wat is the recommended audio encoding rate? does it mean the higher the better? also, what is the expected file output size? i am like 4% in and its already 50MB! original file size was only 290MB

I usually use 48000Hz 128kbps CBR Stereo 16KB/s for Xvid/Divx audio. The video size depends on the encoder settings used. You can use the quantizer mode with of setting of about 2 -3.

2 will give you about the same quality as the original, 3 will give you a smaller filesize at a bit less quality.

That's a limitation of the OS installed MP3 codec. You can add Lame MP3 ACM to give you more options. The settings I listed are fairly commonly used with Divx/Xvid files.
