  1. I am trying to capture via S-Video from my digital cable box to my Hauppauge WinTV(PCI), but I am getting something a friend called a "ground loop" problem. I am not entirely sure what causes it, but it results in the picture being a bit wavy and the audio gets a slight hum.

I am no expert on ground loops, but I understand it can be tricky to deal with. The thing is, I don't get the problem when I connect the digibox to my TV, and I can capture from VHS without any problems. I am wondering if my PC might not be properly grounded, since my TV doesn't have the problem, but I am not sure how to find out of it is grounded or not. The humming disappears if I unplug the TV cable going into my digibox, leaving just the digibox connected to the PC with no picture.

Any help or suggestions as to how to solve the problem would be greatly appreciated.

There is another post about this type of thing from about a week ago. That thread has an answer for your problem. You should also make the cable company come and fix the problem (assuming that the power in your house is correct).

Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  3. Thanks for the link. I did actually did a search before posting, but didn't spot that one. Maybe I need to improve my search-skills.
