I want to backup all my Hi8 tapes to DVDR. I want the best quality without wasting space, either on my Hard drive or on the DVDR. My question revolves around only one aspect.
What resolution do I capture at? I am using Virtual dub with Huffy compression, which I will later use to encode in TMPG.
720X480, 704X480, or 352X480. I want the best without "OVERKILL".
Obviously 720X480 then encode at 9800 bitrate would produce the best results. However, I think we can reach the "peak" quality (since source is HI8) at lower resolutions and bitrates.
Thanks for any input.

bbeiler,
A similar thread was started a while ago.
I'm sure it contains all the information you are after - heck, it even mentions "OVERKILL"
