  1. Hey

I have a slow computer and I am going to upgrade the processor from 400 to 1.xx whatever the motherboard can handle.

Now having said that I was wondering if I should up the RAM ?
    It's 256 now

I know what ram stands for but:
What is the benifit of uping the ram anyway?

    Thanks in advance

  2. I think one of the key things is to be able to run more apps at the same time. Less RAM can lead to more reading and writing from the hard drive which can slow things down too...

What really sucks is if you do not have enough ram to hold everything you have open with computer will create a file of your hard drive as a secondary source for ram. When it uses this file is is much slower that the ram it self. Thus the more ram you have the more you computer has to play with. What is really nice is if you have enough ram and you can create a ram drive. Ram drives are much much faster than your standard hard drive. It's great for things you want done quickly. Because the faster a program can gain access to your data the faster it can complete its tasks.

if you got windows 95/98/Me that's about as far as you can go. if you got xp, then i think there's no limit.

  7. Don't remember exactly, but there's an OS limitation on system RAM with Win9x/ME.

  8. According to M$ Win9x RAM capacity is 768MB.Your mobo may support 1024MB of RAM but that is for NTFS or Linux.
    Here's some recommendations:
