  1. Okay, I'm trying to convert this DivX movie, 720x368, 1:31:31 length, to XVCD on TMPGEnc. I tried converting it in its native format, didn't play on my player (Toshiba SD-1800) (please note it does play xvcd, and I have successfully made many other xvcd movies). SOOOO in TMPGEnc I did it all over again, and halved the resolution to 360x184. It played, but I thought the quality was too low. SOOO this time I changed the resolution to 2/3rds of the original, 480x140 (not exactly 2/3's, pretty rough). That didn't work either. Which resolution should I use for this movie to get the maximum amount of quality and have it still work on my TV? Thanks, if you need more info just ask. I don't want to have to do this with trial and error because it takes a while to convert these :P

  2. When you say "resolution" do you mean "framesize"?
If so, pick a legal "framesize" like 352x480, 480x480, or 720x480 and your DVD player will play it (as long as it supports these framesizes for xVCD or xSVCD).

The original 1:1 source resolution doesnt matter, as TMPG will convert to 4x3 NTSC. If you want to keep as widescreen then choose "full-screen (keep aspect ratio)".

If your trying to get it onto 1 CD, I would suggest a 352x480 4x3 framesize.

  3. Hello there

BZ` when making your Xvcd did you eveer have any audio/video synch troubles ? I know when making svcd on my player (toshiba-sd1200) I need to demux and remux with roxio video pack, or there is just no way the a/v will be in sync. Im finding now that xvcd plays and i have audio but theres a serious sync issue and i cant correct it.

And yes you are so correct on the trial and error, thanks to this site though i had a lot of it cut short :>

    ciao
