I am fairly new at this but have had extensive computer experience. I have purchased a Sony TVR17 minidv. I have installed a siig dv/firewire capture card. I have caputred content into, ulead 6.0, adobe premier6.0, and mgi (version not known). I does't matter which program I capture in, when I edit and produce the final result in whatever format, mpeg1, mpeg2, or even back to AVI, the results are lousy. If I play back through the dvd or go full screen on the computer, the picture is very grainy and pixilated. I have played the tape directly from the Sony to the tv set, and it is perfect.
I have also captured directly from Sony to my Sony laptop via ilink, just playing it back on a full screen is bad.
I have tried capturing in 720/480 and dropping down in the final edit, but again, bad results.
I am transferring to a PentIII 933mhz with 512mb ram. I utilize end it all before transferring.
I am really frustrated, I usually can figure most anything out on the computer but this has me stumped. I bought the TVR17 with this project in mind.
