I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7. I am using ImgBurn 2.5.1.0 when burning, using the auto settings.

I'm using DVDFab and DVD Shrink. I can watch the movie with no problems on the laptop. However, when I burn to DVD the last 10-15 minutes hesitates, is pixilated, and sometimes just freezes.

What suggestions do you have to trouble shoot the problem.

Note: I used to use Nero 7 but Nero 7 doesn't seem to be compatable with Windows 7. I'm using ImgBurn because it's free and I read good things about it on this forum.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

How are you watching it? From the DVD files on your hard drive, or...?

How are you watching the burnt DVD? On your laptop, on a standalone DVD player, or...?

    Sure sign of crappy media!!

The quality of cheap media degrades near the outer edge.

Really crappy, bottom of the landfill media will do this throughout, although i have not personally seen such bad media in several years as i always buy good quality media.

  5. Yeah, that almost certainly indicates crummy media. ImgBurn can identify the media I.D, you could post that here for confirmation.

A couple things you can do rather than throwing them away:

    1) Set burn speed to 8x.
    2) Set a smaller custom output size in DVDShrink, maybe a couple hundred MBs smaller. That keeps the burn away from the very edge of the disc.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

I can watch successfully from files on hard drive. The quality problem is when watching from stand alone DVD player.

As far as media, I'm using Sony. I purchased a 100 spool pack and burned half with no problem on old laptop & Nero. Very early on I recognized the importance of good media. Do you think Sony DVDs are "cheap media"? (I know how manufacturers can degrade their quality over time.)

    I'll try your suggestions, fritzi93.

    Thanks for all your input!
