    Hello

    I have a video:

    MPEG-4 VisualXvid (Perian), 512 x 384, Millions
    AC3, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
    695.46 MB
    1068.22 kbits/s
    01:32:46

I want to edit it and cut out a part, after that I want to convert it to a DVD. I think I have to use one program for the editing and one other for converting it to a DVD. But I have heard that you can loose quality if you convert it to many times?

So I am looking for a program who can edit and cut out the scene without reconverting the video. I have tried AVS Video ReMaker who dont need reconverting. But it could only cut in keyframes so it was not accurate enough.

So what editing program do you recommend to use to lose the smallest amount of quality?

    Thanks

NOT going to happen. DVD is MPEG2 and can be nothing else. It will need to be re-encoded.

That was not what I meant. Sorry for my terrible english . My idea was to take the video file and:

    1. Edit it by cutting away some unwanted parts.
    2. Then use DVD converter.

What is the best way to do this to get optimum quality. Which software do you recommend. I know I don't can come close to DVD quality, but I think its very important to get the best results out of it.

  4. For the editing maybe AviDemux or VirtualDubMod
And DVDStyler or AVSToDVD for the DVD conversion

  5. The upcoming ConvertXtoDVD version 5 will do all that (ie edit, convert etc). The beta is available.

I like avidemux myself. You may not realize that you can't just cut anywhere without some reencoding. Only on key frames. Those should occur upon scene changes but not necessarily. But it wouldn't mean the whole file gets reencoded if need be.

Since he is going from Xvid to DVD and re-encoding to MPEG2 anyway....he does not need to worry about key frames if he plans on doing it all in AviDemux.

Or....convert to MPEG2 first, then use something like TMPGenc MPEG editor, which is a frame-specific MPG editor. It doesn't worry about key frames, and uses smart rendering to rearrange frames only in the cut region. Trial version available.

Thanks alot for all the response
I really don't know what software to choose.

Who of these softwares has the best DVD menu editor?

  10. ConvertXtoDVD has DVD menu authoring. Or, as sanlyn says, convert the whole thing to mpeg2 first and then edit & add menus (eg VideoReDo).

I believe this is a matter of personal preferences. I find that DVDStyler offers me the greatest flexibillity in creating menus/disc navigation.

And after that I will use DVDStyler to make the menu.

I still got one question: What is the best quality MPEG4 to MPEG2 converter?

Thanks smartel. But this didn't make much sense to me
Is it possible that you can explain it in more detail?

index the file with megui and then megui's avisynth script creator will open up

i'm a beginner with scripts so megui will shurely make better script than i should , save the script
you can go and look at the script and add histogram() at the end to see if your blacks and whites don't saturate , erase the line after that
open that script with FitCD 'cause it's seams to pinpoint the needed aspect ratio before converting , if they do saturate can click compress YUV color and then yuy2 for virtualdub , save the script

you can now open the file in virtualdub , open video file and add audio file (both from scripts) you can also extract the wave from the original file with virtualdub , tons of guides for those tools are listed here

edit and save with HuffYUV ( virtualdub under video compression ) you have to install HuffYUV before opening Virtualdub

hope it help , be careful this will make a BIG file maybe 100G

check in virtualdub the framerate so video and audio stay in sync ( usually do)

pass that file into AVStoDvd . with every step just be carefull where you click

you can try also to open the file directly in AVStoDvd , and make a Video_ts folder and edit it wirh dvd shrink but that'a a lot less precise

my god, the guy has an MP4 file that needs a bit of trimming and covert to dvd format, why are you making things so complicated for such a simple, basic process ???

grab Avidemux (its free) and import the MP4 and chop the bits out, select MP4 in the output format options box, and it will join back together as the original MP4 without any conversion.

then grab any of the dvd conversion tools suggested in this thread to output that file to DVD.

you could just leave it as an MP4 file for playback on TV or via a hdd media player if they support it.
