I have a bunch of 1080p .mov (Photo-JPEG codec) clips that I want to downconvert to SD NTSC. I have fiddled around with the trial versions of Sorenson Squeeze and DV Kitchen but am not satisfied with the output. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it looks too soft. Can anyone recommend software that will do a good job downconverting and give me some ideas about settings for best output? Either Windows or Mac recommendations will be fine.

It's amazing to me that no one has tried to answer this question. Is it really that difficult? (Perhaps it was too open-ended or not specific enough.)

Neither Sorenson nor DV Kitchen did exactly what I was looking for. QuickTime Pro was the answer! I used the same Photo-JPEG codec to do the conversion. Of course, any compression from HD to SD is going to reduce quality. I was simply asking for software recommendations in order to find that sweet spot between quality and file size.

  3. You didn't specify what codec you wanted it in and what purpose it was for. But most likely people just happened to miss your post (easy to do if you only look at the New Posts page).
