  1. I am using a xp library computer that has the usb connection disabled. The usb jack is physically connected, because when I connect my mp3 player, I get the usb notification (says drive F) and the mp3 player display shows as being connected to the computer. However, I can't access drive F. I've tried typing F:, using Windows Media and other ways to access the mp3 player but the computer says, access forbidden. I'm wondering if there is a way to bypass the forbidden setting and be able to access my mp3 player.

Frankly, I'm not sure anybody here SHOULD be helping you to do this. The library doesn't want you to use their USB ports for a reason and I don't think you have the right to decide against that.

USB access was turned off by an administrator and it would take administrator access to undo it. But given the problems in China with viruses and such I can't say that wanting to connect ANY device to a library PC via USB is a great idea. But then again you do plumb the depths of idiocy.

  3. Talk to the librarian. Sometimes it is possible to have a device enabled for the current session - then it deactivates on logoff.
