AviDemux To YouTube Question

Has something changed at YouTube?
My old faithful method of editing and encoding short (under 5 minute)
video clips with AviDemux(xvid, two-pass by file size, mp3 audio, downsized
to about 75% of full DVD video) has gone
completely south. Every video I put up (35 - 45MB average) is unwatchable due to
big blocks and skipping.
I uninstalled and reinstalled/upgraded AviDemux - no help.
I have purchased Mainconcept Reference and am now uploading
vids with the Apple Ipod Mobile(640x480) codec and all is well(try it...it's
very nice for YouTube stuff IMO).....but I'd love to know why my old faithful
AviDemux is failing me.
Could it be dueling codecs or something? Too many programs with
that came with the same Xvid/Divx pre-installed?
I'm pretty codec stupid actually.

avidemux doesn't rely on system installed codecs, so even if you screw around with your xvid/divx settings/install it shouldn't affect avidemux

Does the xvid video look/play normally locally on your pc before uploading to youtube?

Did it happen more than once? Maybe it's an isolated case or screw up on Youtube's end?

You could use avidemux to encode h.264 as well (instead of xvid)

That's what I mean...I believe I have Xvid on my computer more than once.

Every video I've uploaded in the past few weeks...I had to delete it from YouTube
because it was unwatchable.

You could use avidemux to encode h.264 as well (instead of xvid)
I may try that someday...but like i said...I'm codec stupid...especially when it comes to H264
I have no idea what H264 is...I've seen it mentioned but never looked into it. I only use
Xvid in AviDemux because I don't know how to use/setup Xvid in Virtualdub.
AviDemux has "output size" and a built-in calculator...that's why I used it almost
exclusively.

Seriously doubt it. This probably won't make a difference, but you can use the avidemux portable version (not installed) and it runs in it's own environment, own folder etc...

When you have time to learn, there are a few illustrated guides etc.. for vdub and avidemux encoding.

xvid is h263. h264 is just a newer, more advanced codec. youtube has preferred uploads in h264 for awhile. the size limit is also 1GB now, so higher quality HD vids can be uploaded.

I really don't have a "problem" encoding with AviDemux. I don't get fancy with my encodes
but a little 5 minute video encoded to Xvid is simple for me....because of the built-in tools. I'd
like to stick with it because it is obviously a better editor than Mainconcept Reference. An extra step
of outputting as MPEG-PS from AviDemux....then encoding/transcoding with Mainconcept Reference
won't kill me....or my two big HDD's....it's just the principle of it...

Is that "x264" in AviDemux?
H263 is listed in AviDemux....but then again so is MPEG-4 ASP(xvid4).

yes. (a)vanced (v)ideo (c)odec - avc - h264 - and x264 are the same thing. x264 is the open source version.
