I have two avi files that I need to join, and Virtualdub does not accept them.

Avidemux was suggested on this forum to do that, on a past topic, but I can't quite understand how to do that. I could load the file and run it, but I wonder how to go on.

Can anyone name the steps for a join there or tell me where I can get some info about it?

Does anyone know how to join files with Avisynth?

OK. Worked up fine and the files are joined.

Now how do I demux the audio from the avi video file?

I would like to convert this file using avisynth, but when I load it as AVISource in AvsP I get the error:

"No compatible ACM codec to decode 0x2000 audio stream to PCM".

So I thought perhaps I can get it to work if I separate video from audio.

Or should I use a different loader?

    AC3 ACM Decompressor
    AC3Filter

I can't remember which one of the two you need, but it is one of them.
    If in doubt, Google it.

the former if he uses avisource(), the latter if he uses directshowsource() or dss2() (if it's ac3 audio he's dealing with that is)

Carlmart, you can demux streams directly from within avidemux and load the audio stream using the nicaudio avisynth plugins (look for them)
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl

Seem to recall that 0x2000 is AC3 from memory.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I apologize for linking the wrong guide. My point, however, is that you can search for guides by the type of work or by the tools used. The HOW TO section can answer all of your basic questions.

Sounds like simply a missing codec.

For audio work, I typically use a separate app. Goldwave, although it's not free.

...As pointed out above, I'd get the AC3 ACM Decompressor linked above and see if VDub still complains. That should do the trick.

I did get AC3 ACM and put the plug in in VD. VD still complained and froze when I tried to run it. VDM did not complain and showed the audio stream, but did not show any video. In any case, if you demux the streams with VDM you get a wav track, right? Avidemux gave me the right 5.1 AC3 track. At least for this job it proved better.

BTW. I ended up using directshowsource to load the avi file and it worked fine.

HCenc is now finishing converting. It took about 7 hours to do it, instead of the usual 3-4 hours it does. Probably because I used LSFmod to improve resolution.

Would I do it in less time if I take advantage of my 2 cores with MT avisynth? Would it work for that filter?
