I've given up, can someone PLEASE help me with some SIMPLE advice for a real novice
I've captured a lot of vhs to DVD using NERO 7 through a Haupparge win tv 88x capture card with no problems
from a simple vhs recorder( with no setting controls, enabling etc.) using a s-video cable
The cable was detached for some reason and six months later when I.ve tried to do some more vhs tapes, it is capturing in black and white. tried two software programmes, still the same result. Tried a process of elimination replacing plugs ,cables, etc, re-installed the drivers for the card, still the same. video places perfect through TV in colour.but no success capturing. I have probably not given you enough of the right details or specifications but it's a starting point please help if you can DV VIRGIN

Is this a tape you have captured before? Have you experienced this same phenomenum with other tapes?
It could be because there are timing issues with the tape, if it is ONE tape. I rememeber having a bad flagging issue with a tape that I was trying to capture, but this same tape played fine on my TV. Posted something here, got the response that a TV is much more forgiving about signal problems than a computer is. Get a TBC (if you can afford/find one)
