Hi guys , Ive just bought a new pc that has a WIN TV DVB-T card (thats what it says on'my computer' settings) installed.

I understand I can plug an aerial into it to receive TV pictures, but can I somehow hook my VHS video recorder to it , to copy old VHS tapes to my pc ?

If so , what cable do I need ?

    Thanks for any help .

Start -> Run -> type "devmgmt.msc". Device Manager will open, look for your device in "Sound, video, and game controllers". Tell us what it says. Alternatively, look up your PC's model number online to see what it says in the specs about your card.

Thanks for the quick reply vaporeon. When I check the device manager , it shows as Win TV DVB-T (Model 133xxx)

The pc is a HP 5653. Not sure if the card is fitted as standard, as it has a graphics card as well.

Can't find any info on that model; it's a Hauppauge tuner but it appears to be HP-specific as their site doesn't list it. Any inputs on it besides aerial?

  5. Note that a DVB-T card doesn't necessarily have the ability to convert analog video to digital. The DVB-T broadcasts are already digital. A search for "Wintv DVB-T model 133" turned up this post where I guy mentions having an HP Pavilion Elite MPE 590UK:

    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:IP88isTCwk4J:www.hauppauge.co.uk/...www.google.com

Searching for "HP Pavilion Elite MPE 590UK" Turns up this page:

    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02682170&lang=...odTypeId=12454

    Where it is indicated:

TV Tuner... Hauppauge DVB-T PCI Express... A 10-pin header on the card provides additional S-Video, composite video, and audio inputs for multimedia connections on the front of some PC cases.

There are 2 'sockets' on the card ... one where I can plug an aerial type connection in (labelled 'tv') , and another small circual port labelled 'ir in'.

  7. IR in is probably for an infra red remote control sensor. If that's all the device has you're probably out of luck as far as VHS capture is concerned.

Ah well.. I assume I can plug a normal tv aerial into the socket and record TV programmes ?

Back to plan b then... either a PCI Capture card, or buy one of these external devices that plug into you rusb socket.
I will have to see how much either cost as I dont have that much VHS footage to copy anyway.

    Any suggestions guys ?

  9. There is one possibility left: try the RF output from the VHS deck. See if the device will capture from that. If not, you can only capture DVB-T digital broadcasts.
