Dear all
I wish to do above and my pc has a PCI firewire card on it. I was wondering whether it would be possible to capture the video through this card. The vhs player has scart and svideo outputs on it. If this is possible please can anyone indicate what cable would I need to do the job.
Your kind help would be appreciated
Ian

Nope. FireWire isn't a video interface. It's for data transfer (much like USB).
You need a capture card, like the Hauppauge PVR series.

Thank you for the information. What confuses me is that one CAN capture video to a firewire card from a camcorder. I have done it myself
Please do you know if it is possible to capture video from a vhs player to a usb port?

Check the OUTPUTS on the VCR. DVHS have firewire, but not standard players. No USB on anything, SFAIK.
Now, you need a matching INPUT on the PC.
These INPUTS will be found on a Capture Card. -
