    Hey guys,
Haven't been here in a looong time now but I got a question. I have two 700MB Avi files (Xvid with AC3). I wish to join them into a 1400MB AVi file. How do I do it? I tried using VirtualDub but it geives me an error saying that I have VBR encoding, i tried using Ultra Video Joiner which successfully joins the video but leaves the file size as 700 MB and compresses the video. How can I join the avi files? Please gimme a simple solution someone.

Try virtualdubmod instead. Just select no if you want to rewrite the mp3 vbr header.

The way I do it is a little long winded, but so far hasn't let me down.

Open the first part in virtualdubmod. Append the second part. Click on Streams -> Stream List. Click on Demux, and save the audio as a .ac3 file. Close virtualdubmod.

Again, open the first part in virtualdubmod, then append the second part. Click on Streams -> Stream List. Highlight the existing audio, and click disable. Click add, and browse for your .ac3 file from earlier. With video and audio in Direct Stream Copy mode, save the new avi file.

I know this process seems disjointed and odd, given it is the same tool and files each time, however this process seems to avoid the sync problems after the join that often occur when joining avi files.

I cannot, of course, guarantee that such a convoluted process will work for you. I may just have been lucky so far . . . .

    hey guns1inger,
I did manage to join a lot of movies using VDMod. It worked flawlessly. Now I'm faced with another problem. It seems VDMod cant handle VBR audio sreams very well. When i open a AVI file with a VBR audio stream I get the popular message "Virtual Dub has detected an improper VBR encoding....". How do i join two AVI files if they have VBR stream. I would have to convert the audio stream to CBR. I googled around a bit but the answers just led me deeper and deeper into the depths with no hope solving my problem. Please help.

https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=309224 walks you through how to change VBR MP3 to uncompressed wav. Replacing it with CBR MP3 is the same, just a different compression choice. Note : You may have to install LAME if you haven't already, or you may be limited to 56kbps MP3 encoding.

I did this and my 700mb AVI file has become 1.35 gigs and now it has uncompressed PCM. What step would I have change so that i can compress into CBR MP3. I have the LAME codec.

open the avi in virtualdubmod (click OK to the VBR warning you will get), then go Streams->Stream List. Right click on the audio and select Full Processing. Right-click again and select Compression. Choose Uncompressed PCM. Click OK, then click Save WAV and create new file. The file size should be around 100mb per 10 minutes of footage (i.e. 90 minute file should produce a 900mb file, give or take a few MB). Once this completes, click on Add, and select your wav file. Click on the MP3 audio track, then click on the disable button. Click OK, then go File->Save as. Make sure it is set to Direct Stream Copy, and save a new avi file with just your new audio track. Finally, open this new avi file, and test it for audio sync. If everything is good, use this in DivxtoDVD and see how it goes.

Instead of Uncompressed PCM, choose an alternative - CBR MP3 in your case.

hey gunslinger. I'll get back you in some time. Was just messing around with different codecs and it seems that AC3 isnt causing sync issue. Lets see if its my luck or just some thing else.
