I have the dvd player hooked up to a Sony FS120 crt television. My problem is that whenever the scene is dark or black, the black looks mucky with distorted colors in it. I have the dvd player hooked up via component cables that were rather pricey. Any help would be great.

Do you see black problems with other inputs or tuning TV broadcasts?

Do you have the player set for 4:3 YPbPr 480i ?

    Why expensive cables?

I verified that my tv was set to 4:3 and the dvd player is at 480i. I have had this problem when using a different dvd player and a different tv (same model). Should I post in another forum for tv problems?

My tv settings are as follows:
    Mode: Standard
    Color Temp: Neutral
    ClearEdge VM: Low

If all the settings are correct and other players do the same thing, it may be a problem with your TV's internal adjustments rather than the DVD player. Do you see similar problems from S-Video or TV tuner inputs?

I've come to the conclusion that it is the tv. I'll just have to buy another one. I had bought this same model before and it did the same thing with a different dvd player. I don't notice it on s-video.
