I have a basic (old) Sanyo VHS VCR, a Digital 8 camcorder and a Lite-on DVD recorder (69$).
Which will give better quality -
1. VCR>RCA cables>DVD recorder, OR
2. VCR>RCA cables>Camcorder>Firewire>DVD recorder?
Basically, the question is if Firewire (pass through) is better than RCA cables directly connected to DVD recorder. Or it does not matter. Thanks in advance.

My MiniDV Camcorder doubles as an exceptional Timebase Corrector when used in passthru. The same may be true of your Digital 8.
Also, The LiteOn DVD Recorder that I tried was not very tolerant of timebase errors, so timebase correction between the VCR and the DVD Recorder might help quite a bit. A lot depends upon your tapes.
You should try both ways to see if the Digital 8 passthru provides a better picture. Look for less jitter, straighter vertical lines, improved chroma purity, etc.
