So how many hard drives on your computer are dedicated to video capture and/or editing?
I have one 80gb harddrive that has my os and my main program files on it. I use a second 160gb for strictly video captures. It's usually adequate for me as long as I don't record too many movies during a week and I burn a few dvds every few days to free up space.

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

4 (totalling 600GB). Plus a separate one for the operating system. I recently added an extra 250Gb drive as I was running short on space for capturing and editing.

160GB standalone DVD recorder for capture to MPEG2 (DVD)
250GB dedicated hard drive for media projects, AVI capture, editing, authoring, etc.
120GB OS and programs
I use the standalone DVD recorder most of the time nowadays, using the computer to edit and author the MPEG2 files to final DVD's -
I don't capture on the computer (too slow process). I record with standalone dvd recorder and I cut commercials and reauthor with PC.
So I choose the 1st option. -
Three. 250-GB PATA & two 160-GB SATA. Fourth harddrive is 120-GB PATA for O/S & Apps (30-GB partition) and non-video stuff (90-GB partition). I also have an external 60-GB firewire drive that I use for backup purposes.

It's a big hobby.

All that changes over time is MB hard drives become GB hard drives and now become TB hard drives.

I just have the one hard drive (100+ GB) with the os and everything else on it that I also use for video captures. I know everybody says you're supposed to have a dedicated hard drive for videos, but I've never had any problems. Of course, I usually only work on one project at a time and delete everything after I'm done.

Boot drive 120g, 300gx2 sata, and 160g usb for total 880g. I capture movies from vhs, satellite, and ld with standalone, and edit, author, burn on computer, not much space needed, likewise for backups. Custom projects are captured to disc from 3 digital cameras using LOTS of space for editing, encoding, re-editing, re-encoding, authoring, starting over, etc, etc, etc.
I just completed a concert video 90+ minutes using three camera angles edited on ulead mediastudio pro 7. Space got tight. -
Two DVD Recorders with 160 Gb
2 dedicated hard drives with 400 Gb -
Each of my 4 machines use 2 HDs. C: is 120Gb and the secondary is 200Gb.
Gives 1.280 Tb for the PCs.
Plus 320Gb & 200Gb NAS boxes.
Total - 1.8 Tb.
All on Gigabit subnetwork.
Sometimes I bring work home.
Oops. Forgot the one 400Gb SATA in one of the PCs.
2.2 TbWhatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -
one 160G PATA 7200 RPM DiamondMax Pro.
It's ok, but I'd like to pick up a 10000RPM SATA"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright
