I have a question about hard drives. They consist of platters, and one platter equals 100gigs?

one platter equals 100gigs
My western digital bb800 (80gig) had 2 x platters -
The GB/platter increases as technology improves. Both sides of the platter are (can be) used. And the size of the platter makes a difference too:

You have to specify what drive you're asking about. -
I still have fond memories of my first Hard Disk.
Actually it was an ISA-based card - a whopping 32 meg of storage -
I only buy Western Digital, mainly because they are actually quiet. I like the WD Caviar SE16 - 500 GB. From my understanding, the more platters, the more trouble it can have. I would like to get the 750GB, but the reviews aren't as good.

Most manufacturers are currently using various platter sizes. WD has the new 640GB drive, which is using two 320GB platters. The number of platters should be mostly irrelevant. Almost all purchases boil down to size and price, not the number of platters.
