[color=blue]Ok here goes. What I am trying to accomplish with my next computer upgrade is turn it into a high end game machine/ HDTV/digital pvr/HTPC. But I have some important questions that I need to hopefully get answers too. I pretty much did research on digital tuner cards. and have decided to go with a DIVICO FusionHDTV7 Gold PCI CARD. It has all the features I'm looking for except for FM and is priced just right. Well, now that it comes down to it I really only have two questions to ask. Question Number 1: Which Hard Drives are best for capturing video/video editing. I've looked a little bit and the answer is probably the SEAGATE SV Model Drives but, I'd like to know of others. And my second and third questions are is RAID best for VIDEO Capture? If so which raid should I make sure my new motherboard has? So far I'm heading towards JBOD. But I'm still unsure. If anyone could answer these questions you would be a great help.

  2. At the low bitrates (assuming MPEG via ATSC and QAM) you'll be capturing with that card -- hard drive speed isn't critical. Having multiple drives is more important.

Very few posts here about using raid setup.

Most say to use a multiple drive setup and read from one drive and write to the other. Thats what I do and I haven't dropped a frame yet (using 3 drives). I do cable and VHS.

Most hard drives available these days are quick enough for capture by themselves. JMO, but RAID just complicates the setup and is not really needed. As mentioned, multiple, separate drives seem the best setup.

I've used the Divico Gold card and now have a MyHD MDP-130. They both worked well, but drivers for Vista may be a problem with both. Both work well with XP, though.
