When burning .avi files to DVD+R or DVD+RW using Nero Vision Express 3, I sometimes get a "Disk Error" message on my DVD player. My player is a brand new Sony DVD-HD that has the ability to play all types of disks.
This doesn't happen on all burns. Most play fine.
Are there different types of .avi files? Any ideas?

Most set top DVD players will not read AVI's. Your sony might be able to play all types of discs, but might not be able to play avi files.

I burn .avi files to a DVD with Nero Vision Express 3 which encodes the avi and creates a folder named VIDEO_TS on the disk. This folder contains various files with VTS_******.*** files.
I'm not trying to play the avi file in my player.
I sometimes get DVDs that will not play giving me the Disk Error message. -
Disk Error normally means the player doesn't like that brand of media. Can you try a different brand to see if that solves the problem? My brother has a Sony DVD player and it lonly likes a few brands of media, TY and Ritek.

You could also be getting bad burns with your DVD burner for any number of reasons. You can verify the discs with DVDInfopro.
