  1. My webcam is suppose to broadcast at 30fps yet the webcast is jerky, as most are. The NTSC standard is is 29.97FPS and i see no jerkyness in broadsast TV.
1.Can anyone explain why that is?
2.how one can measure their webcam FPS rate?
    3. any solutions to alllivate the jerky webcast?
It was mentioned here that webcam can only 'push' 10FPS, but that statement was not expounded. Thanks in advance. I'm new to this board and searched the post for associated answers and found none, prior to asking the question.
I'm running DSL through AMD Athlon 2500 with a video card.

Most likely it's a limitation of your upload connection speed. Less frames mean less data it needs to send. If you using a high quality setting that can affect the framerate as well. Consider this....

    Average Data Rates
    Dial up (upload): 33kbps
    Cable (upload): 400-800kbps
    DVD : 6000-8000kbps
    DV-AVI: 30000kbps
    Uncompressed AVI: Astronomical

You can check your connection speed here: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

    - I do agree. One interesting note here: 30 FPS is the PAL-M frame rate that is used by the ingenious PAL Brazilian System for public and cable broadcasting. Even though being very compatible to NTSC because it runs at 30 FPS (NTSC is 29.97), PAL-M (the M comes from NTSC) uses PAL color palette to correct the famous never the same color.

  4. Is your webcam a USB2 or 1, that makes a lot of difference. Also that 30FPS frame rate is for the smallest size picture.
