I am working on a project that will be rendered to a WMV file and will also need to be onto a DVD. My original footage is 720 X 480 NTSV DV SD 29.97fps, 4:3 aspect ratio.

When I export my WMV file, I don't know if I should use 29.97fps or 30fps (I think Vegas 7 will creates this file as progressive). The frame size of the WMV file will be 656 X 480. I chose 656 X 480 because I want my 4:3 video without black bars on top and bottom. This WMV file will not be played on the web. The file will be played back within Windows Media Player or from within MS PowerPoint.

When you create a WMV file out of Sony Vegas, is it automatically progressive or does the project properties determine if it's interlaced or not? For example, the "deinterlace method" is currently set to "blend".

Use 29.97 fps. Computers will handle it.

WMV is always progressive. Use VC-1 if you want interlace as an option.

  3. WMV3 (VC-1) supports interlaced encoding but don't count on anything anywhere to handle it properly.
