  1. Hey. I've got a question regarding using ffmpegx and DVD Studio Pro 3 together. I'm relatively new to DVD SP but I've tried importing "assets" or files into DVD SP, but it doesn't seem to be working right. I use ffmpegx to create the .m2v and .ac3 files so that I can then import them into DVD SP but when I tried that, it still didn't work. There are only certain types of files that are DVD compliant with SP, so how do I make sure that the encoded files are as DVD compliant as possible? Nothing seems to work. I can't import avi/XVID files directly into the DVD SP program, nor can I VIDEO_TS folders, mpg movies, etc. I have the same problem with iDVD. Neither of the two programs recognize or let me import any sort of quicktime video files.

What is the correct way to do this?

  2. The correct way is to convert to "DVD mpeg2enc" and then import the m2v and ac3 streams into DVDSP. Using "DVD ffmpeg" also works for PAL, but for NTSC FILM it may need addition of a 3:2 pulldown flag to the m2v file by using the Pulldown tool.

  3. Ok. I'll try that. Thanks, major. I'll keep you updated and if I have other issues, I'll let you know.

I used ffmpegx DVD which might have been the problem. With regards to the 3:2 pulldown menu...some of the files I use are XVIDs encoded in PAL, but I have simply converted them to NTSC with DVD ffmpegx. So, I should encode with mpeg2enc, add a 3:2 pulldown menu to the resulting m2v file, then import it and its corresponding ac3 file into DVD SP?

  4. If you encode with mpeg2enc engine, no additional step is needed.

If you encode with ffmpeg engine and the framerate is NTSC FILM, you should in addition take the .m2v file and run it into the "Pulldown" tool (available in the Tools tab) so as it becomes compatible with DVDSP.
